H pipe or X pipe

Whats the big difference in performance and sound. I had an after market cat back true duals installed at the local muffler shop, and it sounds pretty weak. would an x pipe sound better. Whats some nice soundin mufflers? I'm thinkin bout buying that PYPES entire exhaust system(550.00). Any good?

Re: H pipe or X pipe

I havent heard anything about the pipes system.

The performance advantage really only comes if you have a v8, the crossover between the two pipes equalizes the pressures in the two. Since your a v6 and an "even fire" engine, meaning the cylinders fire in order from bank 1 to bank 2 then bank 1 and bank 2, you wont gain much performance.

The sound will change a bit, Xpipes sound raspier to me than H pipes or straights.

For Mufflers I like the MAC mufflers, warlock, and Bassani.

Overall you wont get a very loud exhaust tone without changing the cam and doing port work on the heads. Its still gonna sound like a 6.

If you want nice sound and are willing to sacrifice some performance(very little at this point) look for baffled mufflers as opposed to free flow or flow through.

Is the consensus pretty much that the Warlocks are pretty sweet?

I'm thinking I might get a true dual setup with Warlocks sometime in the next couple weeks.

Pypes is pretty cheap for the full exhaust, but it does sound kind of "Honda-ish".

Everything I have heard about the Pypes products is that their very good for the money. I think Lowflynn has a Pypes exhaust. I think they take a little work to get them to fit right though, but I don't know that for sure.

There's a video of them. Keep in mind that every exhaust will 'rice-out' at 3K RPMs.

Re: H pipe or X pipe

That's pretty close.

I have the o/r x with flowtech afterburners (cheap summit mufflers).

It sounds ok down low, over 3k it sounds a little ricey.

But..pretty much it does sound like that video

Re: H pipe or X pipe

Didnt you like the mufflers that came wit it? i'm torn between the pypes system or just throwin an x pipe and two flowmasters on my existing dual sysyem. I want the loudest best tone i can. the guy at the local shop put on a true duals wit cherry bomb mufflers and its only a little bit louder. How bad was the pypes system to put on? thanks for the reply

Re: H pipe or X pipe

I often wonder this myself and it'd be cool to find out more specific info on this. I have true dual flows w/x-pipe. It isn't as loud as I imagined it'd be, but I really do like them. They have a really good consistent, even tone to them. I've noticed the tone/sound change with time, and even with removing my air silencer I've noticed a small difference in sound. good luck!

I wonder if this stang has other mods aside from the pypes.

Re: H pipe or X pipe

Yes I know....

I did not put on the pypes catback, just the offroad x. And I'm currently saving up to change the mufflers back out for something that will sound halfway decent.
