Exclamation V6 to V8 Conversion Questions

I dont even know if this is the right thread, direct me to where I need to go if that's the case.

Ok, so I have a 2004 V6 (my first mistake hehe) and I want to convert it to a V8 so I can make some nice power gains from it. There simply isnt enough in a 6er for me.

Anyway, I figure to convert from a V6 to a V8 I need to get an engine, transmission, driveshaft, and rear end. I am not mod savvy, and I know that this cant be all I need. Please give me some pointers and info on how to make this a clean transition. Here is what I found on Ebay to get me started as far as ideas are concerned. Let me know if I have the right idea. Thanks in advance for any info and advice.

Engine: eBay Motors: 1999 FORD MUSTANG COBRA COMPLETE ENGINE (item 260125990823 end time Jun-15-07 17:27:04 PDT)

Transmission: eBay Motors: T56 T-56 Ford Mustang Cobra Tremec 6 Speed Transmission (item 300116993023 end time Jun-10-07 15:33:13 PDT)

Rear End and Driveshaft: eBay Motors: MUSTANG COBRA DRIVESHAFT & REAR END W/ RING PINION (item 290126425555 end time Jun-13-07 21:05:49 PDT)

I dont know what gears come with the Cobra rear end, but I was planning on upgrading it to 3.73 gears.

Have you got emmisons testing where you live or plan to live in some more years???? I would just sell the V6 and get a Cobra.

Re: V6 to V8 Conversion Questions

*edit*what he said about just buying one*edit*By the time your done with it, you might as well have found you a 99 or 01 cobra(see them all the time for 8-12 thousand) or GT(saw a decent one not too long ago go for 6 grand). Just not worth the time or effort when trying to reinvent the wheel.

Now if you were going for a race car you'd have a good platform, but it sounds like you're aiming for more of a daily driver.

If your V6 is in decent shape you shouldnt take to hard a hit for the trade or sell off value.

Re: V6 to V8 Conversion Questions

Yeah, my V6 is a 2004, the only thing I did to it is a body kit, dual exhaust, rear seat delete kit, and I custom painted the interior myself. I dont have the original body parts, or the rear seat, but I dont think that will lower the trade in value too much, right?

Re: V6 to V8 Conversion Questions

Unless you are really attached to that particular car (like I am for some reason I cannot fathom) I would recommend selling it.

You can get decent money for that car and buy a GT/Cobra for the same or a little less than what you get for the v6.

Now, if you'd like to get some power out of that particular car, you might want to look into doing some modifications to the V6 instead of just buying a V8. You would be suprised at the aftermarket support for these cars and the potential for them.

Re: V6 to V8 Conversion Questions

With a properly tuned turbo or super charger set up you would be amazed what you could pull out of a V6.

You forgot re-wiring your car if you are going for a V8.
