Freestar 04-06 4.2 liter

Hey great forum!
My engine has been knocking for a while and I think it is about time to replace or get a newer vehicle. Been looking around and found that model of engine (4.2l Freestar 04-06) used (60k miles) for pretty cheap. I looked at the 4.2 swap, and I would like to know if my car would be fine for it. I have a 97 ford mustang v6 3.8l and I believe it has the t5 transmission, which is a 5spd manual. I'm wanting to know if I would be able to follow the parts list in the post for a 4.2 swap. I am not engine savy what so ever. However I got a buddy that does all this type of stuff for a partial living (he will help do it for me, gonna help so I can learn), hard on mechanics now adays in the central valley in Cali. He owes me a few favors so I believe it's time to cash in my chips.

I can get the full engine for around 450 shipped to my door, has been tested etc and runs great.

BUY IT!!!! THAT IS A GOOD PRICE!!! It will fit and you may have to buy a tuner but it will work.

I'm not 100% sure but the earlier 4.2 engines found in F150's and such were a 3.8 block with basically a stroker kit. I.E. crank, rods, and pistons gave you more stroke therefore giving more displacement.

Not a bad price for a full longblock, just check to make sure accessories interchange between that block and yours.

Re: Freestar 04-06 4.2 liter

I'm wanting to know if I can follow the parts list for the swap or if I am gonna have to wing it. I am trying to watch the spending. It's like how much is to much when it becomes a waste and I should just get another vehicle.

I'm trying to price it out and keep it below a down payment for a newer car. So under 1500 fully installed.

Re: Freestar 04-06 4.2 liter

Well if it was me I would put the hole 4.2 in it, it will work. I've been doing some research and you will have to use most of your sensors because the plugs are different and you will have to do some wiring to extend the wires to reach the sensors. But other than that the 4.2 in the freestar is no different then the 4.2 in the 97 f150.
