Re: v6 to v8 swap

Never have done it, I'm going to be putting the 4.6l in my v6 and I know I will need the engine, tranny, rear end to handle the power, driveshaft, computer, wiring harness and some more things. In the end you will be looking at roughly 10-15k to do that.

Re: v6 to v8 swap

you will need to change the tranny or maybe bellhousing if your 5 speed.
The 4.0L doesn't have the V8 bolt pattern on the bellhousing like the 3.8L/3.9L. If your going carb instead of fuel injected it will be easier. But it isn't a easy job overall.

It wouls probably be less costly to buy a used GT instead , I recently bought a v6 ,and came across many used GT's in the $15,000 to $18,000 range .....

Re: v6 to v8 swap

If you want auto stay with the 4r70w and have the j-mod done to it. If you want stick-shift I myself would go 6 speed tremec. Since you're going carb it will be easy to wire in the motor. I can usually wire a carbed motor with to hots and have it running minus the gauges.

Buy the time a shop gets done raping you, you prob would have been able to buy a small 3 bed room house.

Re: v6 to v8 swap

almost done wit my 2000 3,8 to 4.6 swap. Its a project but in the end i think its gonna be worth it. Not everyone has the know how or the balls to tear apart a perfectly good running car to make it into something they really want. Just do it!
