Post 3.8 V6 dyno Tune Results

What are some H.P/Trq results given after dyno tune install?? Specific mods existing on motor should be mentioned to compare apples to apples.
I would really like to know where I stand performance wise and what direction to head towards for best gains.
Any input would be appreciated. I believe we all start out with 127or137 H.P. @ rear wheels stock; 94-98 & 99-04 respectfully.

Re: 3.8 V6 dyno Tune Results

a tune will probably net you 10rwhp if you have bolt ons~ you may pick that up on a stock car as well but in that range.

If you have an automatic transmission it will firm up the shifts and make much more difference.

As always a tuner does not a tune make its all up to who ever writes the tune to get it correct so be SURE to use someone that KNOWS what they are doing vs someone that gives you a tune straight from the manuf and its well... worthless.

Re: 3.8 V6 dyno Tune Results

94-98 do 20 H.P. less. My tune got me 147 maxH.P. and 219 max Trq. which is really impressive especially considering the car has 200k+ miles on it.
I can not find a post with any tuning rwhp results to compare because I am curious as to where I stand and what I can do next (other than blower or turbo or NOx) I saw that Justin w/VMP got a '95 up to 145 rw H.P. once but thats it. I'm talking apples to apples of course-
CAI,UD Pulleys,Throttle Body,Flowmaster catback exhaust

That is real NICE. About 23 hp on your own! That is awesome because only I know the little things I have had to do to squeeze out that extra 5-10 hp.

I have been told several times that anyone with a (94-98~my experience) 3.8 should only expect 3-4+ H.P. What you should expect is a much nicer car to drive especially with an auto like you said. 10+rwhp is gained when someone is really taking good care of their car and its rare & I think thats why you can not find hardly ANY information on 3.8 tune results, unless of course you are talking superchargers or turbo dyno results. Daily driver (slightly modded) results are very hard to find.

Re: 3.8 V6 dyno Tune Results

yea its hard to find that information, and at the end of the day even if you do every regular bolt on and tune it wont make a huge difference

Re: 3.8 V6 dyno Tune Results

I have too many brand new pieces and parts laying around that need to be installed (upgraded gears, clutch, flywheel, ect.) but I only have two hands and no garage. It is all coming together though. With my bolt-ons & tune, it moves around considerably better which appeases the "need for speed" until I can save up for SSM Stage 2+ Power pack.
Bottom line message from me re: a 94-98 3.8 and building up to getting a tuner is to find the very best shop dealing with V6/V8 Mustangs(most in this area only work with GT/Cobra's)and start a relationship with them. Plan on the possibility of driving a distance or hauling the car to them. Its most important. I was lucky, one of the top 2 or 3 tuners on the east coast was within an hour away. They ran the car on the dyno 4 or more times, took their time and answered all my questions while I was in the garage with them and the car. The difference in doing that vs buying a pre-loaded SCT is huge in not just hp graphs but most importantly drive-ability which I now have- naturally aspirated. I try to let other V6 owners and V8 owners drive the car because it does move and sound so much better.
Everybody out there with a 3.8, please do yourself a favor and clean out your pcv system and clean the upper intake plenum. Don't forget that fuel filter either. I regularly catch a teaspoon of oil through the pcv line every 500 miles. It only cost the price of a can of Seafoam! Do it.

Re: 3.8 V6 dyno Tune Results

Hi I'm pretty new around here, but I've been slowly building up my 01 V6 as I have time and money. The last time I had it on the dyno was in 9/07 and it was pulling 193 RWH with 216 FPT. I really need to have it done again now that I just finished with some more upgrades. New trans, trans cooler and converter. Not expecting much HP gain, but the torque should go up a bit. Hoping to finally break my 15.00 1/4 mile barrier.

Can you tell me: What rpm's are you pulling at 60 mph with those gears? Thanks.
