Short Throw Shifter?

I have a 2000 V6 and was curious as to how you know what transmission you have? I want to put in a short throw shifter but i need to know what tranny I have first. Also for those of you that have put them in already which is the best? Thanks for you help!

It should be a T-5. I love my Pro 5.0 handle. I didn't buy a short through yet because I was really just looking for a way to have drinks in my cupholder.

I will probably end up getting the Steeda shifter and using my Pro 5.0 handle again.

Re: Short Throw Shifter?

You have a T-5 transmission. I recommend an MGW shifter as its very very good quality and to me is great for short shifts that are easy to reach. It also doesnt make much if any noise.

Some go steeda, B&M, or pro 5.0 but ive used all but the pro 5.0 and MGW to me was the best.

What about the hurst? I know they are good quality but how does the cost and quality compare to the Mgw?

Re: Short Throw Shifter?

I heard they are relaying to much on their name now.

Nothing is going to beat MGW right now.

Hurst doesnt use the same thread pattern for their knobs so you have to get their knobs only... I would go MGW they have done their homework and allow for a very adjustable easy to drive and shift shifter. I would go with the medium handle as well, I think its orange.

Orange is the only handle available now...unless you find someone selling the red or blue handles.

I have used steeda and MGW...get MGW...and get the shifter gasket and there will be pretty much no noise at all. (CobraBob's Stang Shifter Gaskets and I think one of our site sponsors as well....or at least used to be a sponsor)

Re: Short Throw Shifter?

I installed the shifter and there is a HUGE difference. I didn't realize how loose my factory shifter was until i put the mgw in. WOW. all shifts are firm and you know you wont miss 3rd. This shifter is amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone looking.
