gauges reset when started?

hey guys. my 04 V6 has been starting up kinda weird lately. every time i crank her up all of my gauges go through the 'TEST' where they go all the way up then come back down. at first i was thinking maybe it was a battery/alternator issue because i've seen it do that if i leave my radio on for a while and the battery drains a little but not enough to keep it from starting. but i'm not sure why it would do this every time i start the car??? doesn't matter how long it sits whether it be 5 minutes or over night. could it be possible that i have an electrical issue somewhere?

all input appreciated!

Mine has done that as well, sounds primative but check that your fuses are on right. try disconnecting the battery and putting it back might be a minor malfunction

Speaking of fuses... I've also been experiencing problems with my cigarette lighter/power source. In dash and in console. Keeps blowing fuses. And I'm using the same kind of fuse.

I have already disconnected the battery. No change.

if the fuse keeps blowing then its probably the wring voltage there are 5, 10,15,20 and so on the if it keeps blowing the number might be too high. When did this start happening was it after something specific?

Re: gauges reset when started?

nothing specific that i could point out. the fuses for the power sources are 5v i think? what ever was in there was what i used again. and the first one that blew was the one from when i got the car so i would think it was right. i've changed the fuses 3 times and after plugging my phone charger in it would blow after about 5 minutes.

if you remove the battery it will do this, sounds like your battery is going bad or the alternator~ keep an eye on it or go get the battery tested.

I could be wrong but its free to check the battery most times, you can do it yourself with a power monitor~

Re: gauges reset when started?

yea.. i just find it odd that even after sitting for only 5 min. or so the gauges will still reset. in that case, wouldn't it be dead after sitting over night?

thats why i skipped over the battery/alternator part.. but its still worth checking.
