3.8L V6 Mods?

I have a 2000 3.8L V6 Mustang. I am interested in doing a few mods to it, its bone stock rite now. What would be the best mod to start with?
If possible could you give me the best 3 mods to start with?

Thanks for any help.
Cam.

Re: 3.8L V6 Mods?

I would suggest exhaust, a CAI (cold air intake), and the third depends on what transmission you have.

If you have an auto I'd get a handheld tuner. It'll change the shift points and firmness for the better. It'll feel like you have a different car.

For a manual, I'd suggest a short throw shifter...either a pro 5.0, a Steeda Tri-ax, or a MGW.

Those are probably the easiest beginner mods with minimal installation hassle and fairly reasonable in price (relatively speaking).

Re: 3.8L V6 Mods?

I would start with..

1. A Cat-Back Exhaust (Maybes some headers)
2. CAI (They run about $50 off ebay, All CAI are the same pretty much its just the name your paying for in the end.)
3. 3.73 Gears.

Re: 3.8L V6 Mods?

Thank you, I have an auto, so from what I've heard from the manual guys, the short throw will make shifting much easier and you'll be able to slam gears quicker when you want to.

I'm sure you've noticed how awkward the stock shifter feels when shifting to 3rd or 5th, it's sort of a stretch. It can be soggy and clumsy feeling when transitioning between shifts as well. Well the short throw makes those longer pulls much easier, not to mention much smoother.

Also, most aftermarket shifters have the ability to set the centering return springs and stops to adjust firmness and different handle positions to suit your liking.

Some such as the Steeda Tri -ax have offset pre-loaded coil springs so you won't miss 3rd gear.

They pretty much all use the stock shifter or an aftermarket shifter knob, they really are a great mod for manuals.

Re: 3.8L V6 Mods?

C.A.I. = Cold Air Intake. its provides more air to the motor and generates more power. cuz more air = more power as K&N says.

U can find cold air intakes on:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices / Cold Air Intake 99-04 v6 mustang items - Get great deals on eBay Motors items on eBay.com!

Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle Mustang V6 Cold Air Intake Kit at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

V6 Mustang Stuff / Products at V6 Mustang Stuff

some other sites that are good for performance stuff on v6mustangs are:

RPM Outlet/ Ford Mustang 3.8L V6 Performance Parts FREE SHIPPING!

Delk Performance/ Index

Super Six Motorsports/ Super Six Motorsports - V6 products that make your life faster

The last three sites are for when or if you wanna get some serious performance out of your stang.

just lemme know if you have any questions, i'll be glad to help.

Welcome to the site. And a cai, tuner, and catback are probably your best to start with. Easy to install and it'll add a little more fun. How much you looking to spend?

Welcome!

IMO, I think gears would be a great mod with a tune.

I think exhaust or a CAI. Probably exhaust. Mustangs should sound awesome as well as help with your performance.

My favorite mod on my car is the Eibach Pro-Kit. Sits much lower and handles awesome. Also gives your car a more aggressive stance.

Up to you ultimately! Haha.

Yah that's what 90% of the v6 owners do. After that they either go big and build the **** out of the v6 or they spring for a v8.

Don't expect your car to be beating cobras with just bolt on mods...the same year GT's don't respond that much better either, so it's not your car in particular, just the way they are based on the way they were engineered regarding the technology at the time.

With exhaust, CAI, UDP (underdrive pulley), gears/tlok, tune, maybe a windsor intake as the last "bolt on", you'll have a quick v6. It will probably be faster than most stock to lightly modded v6's out there and a handful of 4 cylinder and v6 foreign models. Probably a stock auto 96-97 GT if you can drive your manual.

I'm just saying this so you don't go and put on a couple mods and are disappointed that you aren't faster than every car out there. V6's can be extremely fast, but it takes money and time. In the meantime, have fun, smaller, simpler mods are easy to install and still make your car more fun than in stock form.

Re: 3.8L V6 Mods?

thanks for the advice. and yeah i do understand that it wont be the fastest, it would just be nice to see a V6 go fast for once. im getting sick of hearing about how fast GTs are. i own one, yes, its very quick. i just enjoy the V6 too unlike most people. lol

That's good, owning both cars will give you the best idea of how the two compare and what you'd have to do to make th v6 compete with the GT (basing this off the fact that your GT stock or near stock lol).
