Re: 3.8L V6 Mustang VS Focus? help???

I would say you'd be fine. I think the highest hp engine was the 2.3L duratec for the ST's rated at 151hp. The 08's and up only offer the 2L ~ 140hp. I don't believe the focus' are geared for high performance, more of a economy car.

Unless it's an SVT which I doubt if you said 07 or 08 (they discontinued the SVTs in 04), you should be fine.

I wouldn't do anything too stupid on public roads though...just a recipe for disaster, you or someone else getting hurt or worse.

Stock for stock, you'd get off the line quicker, but he'd catch up. Google the track times and you'll see the difference boils down to the driver.

Edited to add: no *** handing here - it'd be a good race. Just don't be stupid about it.

You'd think it'd be the other way around with the lighter car getting the slight jump but then the torque of the heavier and larger displacement engined car would take action and push it past. But then if the difference in torque is that much more then the stang could jump him right off the line.

ST's do high 15's (manuals) and the Ztecs and basic 2L's are 16 cars manual or auto.

Stock 1999-04 mustang v6's 5spds are mid to high 15's with a good driver that knows the car, so I'd say a race to 80 would be in favor of the stang.

As the owner of a 07 focus and previous owner of a 02 V6 mustang...I honestly don't see the comparison here.

Plus...anyone who says a focus is fast still loses in the end...it's a focus.

As far as I'm concerned the same applies to those peckerheads with neons, especially the srt4 owners, I don't care if their cars in stock form are faster than mine, it's still a damn skittle.

Ya, my first thoughts. But I only found a 300 pound difference, unless I misread something. The torque is much higher thus my thoughts for off the line. I've driven stock V6s - dogs. Of course, they were the older ones, not a 2011.

I've had both of those cars. Lol

I had a black 01 v6 manual Stang also.

I had an '07 focus hatch and it was kinda quick being manual and a lot of Fun to drive. All I had was tint and black wheels and looked clean but did buy it brand new.

Had to get back in a Stang though

I don't know that's tough, actually. Close. I would say driver.

Coming from someone that has had both in manual. It's probably up to the driver. Hopefully the Stang can pull ahead.

Buy an air kit, open up the exhaust, drop in a tune, and you should be fine. Or, drop some exlax in his red bull and take the win.

Speaking of srt4's, I got my *** handed to me by one last week. Dude was running 20lbs of boost and was changing tunes on the fly with his in-car mounted macbook.

Take the cats off. Get a set of long tube headers. Depending on your taste for loudness, you may want to get mufflers in place of the straight pipes if you get longtubes and an off-road midpipe.

You're not going to gain any power by adding long tubes or removing cats.

Gears, nitrous, forced induction, or internal engine work are about your only choices for adding real power to the car.

Re: 3.8L V6 Mustang VS Focus? help???

I was basicly meaning by my statement that if you cant beat a stock non svt focus you need to cut up your license and toss it in the air and hire someone else to drive you around. I would race a non svt focus any day with my 94 v6 stang even the new 2011 focus. The only way he can beat you is on a road corse with sharp turns, the focus's handle better than the "older"stangs.IMO

Re: 3.8L V6 Mustang VS Focus? help???

Ya I'd say you'd be fine against him. Focus' are nice little cars but they aren't performance oriented (SVT and maybe ST's excluded). As long as you can drive you'll be fine...hell even if you did lose just take the v8 out and run circles around him, at the end of the day you have two mustangs and he still has a ford focus...

Most people I've encountered that gave me **** about my car ended up being jealous of it. That's just the way people are, they put down **** they don't have.

lol, yah throw away cars...if Ford didn't make v6 mustangs then there sure as hell wouldn't be any big v8 mustangs. The v6's need to be just as appealing to the masses to keep sales numbers where they need to be. That was one of the contributing problems that killed the camaro/firebird in 02.

Ask your friend if he thinks the 2011 3.7 v6 mustangs are a waste of Ford's money...

LOL! You are right they are throw away cars, you can by motors for them on ebay with 20,xxx miles for 350-400 bucks and brand new bumpers for $50. Hate to say it but the focus is no better than the dodge neon.

Neons are way worse! Just like a cavalier.

I liked my "****us Full of Ruckus" not gonna lie. But there is a reason why I traded it back for a Mustang. That's where my heart lies.

Talking Re: 3.8L V6 Mustang VS Focus? help???

Unless somehow ur friend got the new European version of the focus shipped over here...u shld definately win...and even if you lose somehow...like if your engine blows then you still win in the end...becuz either way he drives a focus...and im sorry but you should never rep a focus...unless ur repping mpg lol

Tell him the only race he would win would be a long distance race cuz u would have to stop for gas first haha
