Re: Mustang quality?

Well there are many variables to consider.

Did you buy it new or used?
How may miles are on it?
How well have you maintained it?

At the body shop I work at it doubles up as a mechanic shop as well. But in the seven months Ive been working there I have not seen a single Mustang in any of the mechanic bays. Ive also have not had a single problem with my Mustang except for oil brakes and rotors.

I have had my 2004 for a little over two years. I have only replaced the alternator and a coil pack.

My old black '01 V6 that I for two years only had to have a clutch and alternator replaced.

Both daily drivers and no major issues.

My 01 V6 has been pretty trouble free except for normal maintenance issues. The only major problems I've had with it (blown rear last year and transmission this year) were due to my beating the crap out of it at the track every weekend for the last 6 years. It's got over 100,000 miles on it and its still going strong.

Re: Mustang quality?

To the OP:

It really comes down to how the car has been treated during it's time on the road. If you weren't the original owner, then previous owners may have not taken care of it properly, leaving you with the problems.

Mustangs are very reliable cars with little problems if maintained properly. I bought mine at 17k miles and it's got 61k now...not one problem, only routine maintenance.

Re: Mustang quality?

well mine got 134xxx miles on it at about 130xxx i replaced the motor and tranny wit a 02 motor v6 but ive changed my alternator, entire ignition system, water pump, radiator, calipers, rotors, i could go on forever I keep it very well maintained I don't know how the previous owner kept it but its been like two years and every month or so i got to fix something. the car is good now (thank god) but my rpm need rises and drops between 1000 and 500 rpm at idle. I was thinking of selling it if it gave me more problems

Yah after complete swaps it can be tough to not have some sort of problems...there are so many components that are changed and if one wasn't done correctly or if something was forgotten then you'll have a string of problems.

Re: Mustang quality?

Could be your IAC (Idle Air Control), maybe a dirty MAF (mass air flow sensor), Throttle Positioning Sensor, vacuum leak, I'd check all those things and see if the idle improves.

Re: Mustang quality?

No problem, definitely take a look at those parts and check for buildup or if they need to be adjusted. Sometimes something as simple as that will do the trick

Re: Mustang quality?

my 04 hasn't given me any major problems. only regular maintenance. and changed parts due to wrecks. but it has been a great car for me. she has about 110k miles now. i believe that ANY car can be a great car as far as reliability when taken care of properly.

My 94 has 125,xxx miles on it and only problem with it is the auto tranny that doesn't belong in it and normal maintenance.

Re: Mustang quality?

ive never had any major issues on any of my 3 mustangs (97, 01, 03). The 01 did have a clutch vibration issue but nothing major.

its all in how its taken care of as well as how work done to it is done. Just because someone "fixes" something doesnt mean they did it right or fixed the actual issue.

Dont blame it on Ford, it wouldnt matter what you drove its just something that happens.

People always blame it on the auto manuf rather than who did the work or not taking proper care of their vehicles. No matter what you drive parts will mess up~ its just how it is

I really don't think so. I should knock on wood first.... My 3.8 has 200K miles+ and it has never broken down. I have just replaced pieces worn out and thats it. Although I do not allow a squeak, tap, or anything at all go without emediate attention some how. All in all, my 1997 V6 runs pristine. Today anyway.

Well not to bring any bad news to the table, but Ive seen the first totaled 5.0 at work last night. Man that sucked to see and I don't think me calling dibs on the engine helped either.

Re: Mustang quality?

Nothing on my car has actually broken without reason...

Open diff broke - I blamed that on vortech

motor started knocked after I sucked up about 1/2 gallon of water - I blamed that on the rain (and needed an excuse to pick up a forged super coupe motor) turns out the stock motor just needed some wd40 and its currently running in another car.

Re: Mustang quality?

I don't know I take care of it, i only put the best of the best in that car everything synthetic, don't really race it, always doin upgrades. It started after the engine overheated and i had to replace it, i changed everything that could have caused it but it was going to inevitably die. well Its good now so we'll see, If something happens to it by 2011 ima sell it.

My parents have an 01 v6, it has been a great car. It has alittle over 100,000 miles on it and the only thing that has been replace is the coil pack. Just need to keep you maintanence up and the reliabilty will be awesome.

I have a 99 gt and besides the horrible person who owned it before me and neglected the girl she has been very good to me. No major issues yet, going through and replacing old worn out parts of a maintenance program that should have been followed before.
