rear brake rotor hot

My rotor gets hot and there is alot of brake dust on my wheel. Also I smell brake fluid while driving. I suspect the caliper is stuck or the slider has seized up. any Ideas?

Re: rear brake rotor hot

Unfortunatly Ive only had expirience with front brakes. However if you smell brake fluid you are most likely leaking it. There is a hose that leads from your car to the caliper if this hose is ripped or the screw attaching it the caliper is loose then you get leaks, can also come from the caliper pistons. I recomend taking out ur tire having someone look at it while you pump the brakes then you can see where the leak is comming from

Re: rear brake rotor hot

got to take it apart and find out , caliper slides are probably seized up, u can pick up a caliper at a parts store fairly cheap ..........and since your smelling brake fluid i'd pick up a new hose also / if you have the cash you might just want to do both sides , new brakes ,hoses, and calipers .............

Re: rear brake rotor hot

You guys were right, however there were no leaks. I think the friction on the 500 mile trip heated the brake fluid and thats what I smelled. Caliper brackets were $20 each at Autozone. Thanks for the help.

Re: rear brake rotor hot

I had the same problem and found the slider bolt was seized making the caliper stick. By the time i found it the brake chucked the pad backing and put the piston into the disk.

Yep one of the sliders was seized ,in the closed position of course. Ruined the pad and rotor, but not the caliper. Now I can upgrade to slotted/drilled rotors.
