Squeaking noise

Recently it has been colder outside than normal and ever since ive been hearing a squeaking noise really high pitched. I figured it was just the belt but im not too sure if its that or if its my water pump like a few other ppl are suggesting. Can anyone help?

Re: Squeaking noise

umm well, I would check over the bolts for the alternator depending on when you put it on. The only reason I say that is cuz sometimes when people bolt stuff on in the summer they think its tight and then when a cold winter day comes around everything has contracted a lil bit and a bolt or a belt will be just a hair loser, possibly causing some squeaking. Its just hard to tell without hearing it, its still very possible that its from your water pump.

What yr is ur mustang?

Re: Squeaking noise

Well if it is a belt squeaking try using an old mechanics trick of useing a bar of soap on the inside of the belt while it is running. Only use a bar of soap or a candle the wax will stop it from squeaking for a bit.

Ok yah ill try that soap trick and its a 2002. I spoke to one of my dads friends and he said its probably the cold weather makin the belt contract or ita making it dry. I want to test my pump for a leak but im not sure how to

Re: Squeaking noise

All water pumps i've seen have a hole "weap hole" in the side where the bearings are, if its bad it will leak from there if it isnt leaking then its most likely not bad.

Re: Squeaking noise

If none of that works, you could check your cam synchronizer, my 2002 had that go bad last month and it caused a pretty bad engine squeak.

Try some belt conditioner. Cheap fix. Soap works too and that's a real cheap fix
