A lot of potential, if you want to do all the work. You will basically need a whole drivetrain to do a 5.0 swap and if you are going to do that just find a 351 Windsor to drop in her!!

Yeah, only issue we have with the car is the drivers seat has two burns in it from cigarettes and the rails on the convertible top need to be fixed

Re: Wanting to make my V6 ALOT faster!!

This is a no brainer.....
Option 1: Trade in the v6 at a dealer for a gt and use the remainder of your money for mods.

Option 2: Buy a gt with the cash you have, sell the v6 and use the remainder of your money to mod.

Option 3: Sell the v6,take that money + your $5k and buy a tastefully modded gt.

My advice to you would be take option 3 and be patient when looking for a new car.If you are gonna stick with the sn95 then make sure to get a 5.0.I know alot of new edge gt owners that won't ever buy a 2v again for the simple fact that they are hard to get power out of.

Do your research and be patient.

Re: Wanting to make my V6 ALOT faster!!

Ya I'd definitely look into trading up...though with all the classified links posted I'd guess you're set on that lol.

I'd suggest an M90 Supercoupe engine swap for your car but then you have the reliability issue so I'd forget that project.

I agree with suggesting the 94-95 5.0 v8 if you really want the SN95 body style. The 2v's are great engines, but only if you want a smaller v8 that makes decent power, alright with some mods and still gets +20 mpgs. I wouldn't buy one if you want 400hp from a dd. That'd be much easier to achieve with the 5.0's.

Plus the 96-98 2v 4.6L's were rated at 215 and 225hp and were non PI engines...a PI head swap from a 99+ 4.6L will get you ~260hp at the crank, but additional bolt on's and mild head work still won't make huge power.

The 5.0's have a lot of options out there, from h/c/i upgrades to simply slapping on a procharger ie forced induction and make big power.

Re: Wanting to make my V6 ALOT faster!!

In the late the 80's into the early 90's iirc the thunderbird came with a supercharged 3.8L v6. It had forged internals along with a M90 roots styled supercharger at ~ 12lbs of boost at peak power. They were single port 3.8's just like the 94-98 mustang 3.8's, so converting a 94-98 mustang 3.8 to one isn't too much of a chore and you're not taking steps back as if you did it to a 99+ v6 (split port). Dropping an entire supercoupe 3.8 engine has been the easiest way since you'll want those forged internals if you run more boost.

Re: Wanting to make my V6 ALOT faster!!

You would need the entire 3.8 Supercoupe engine, ECU, wiring, as well as all the support items for a 100% complete swap. You're going to want a beefed up rearend or a larger one (8.8"), as well as some suspension and braking support mods. You could probably find an engine for under 1k, but the mileage may be unknown or high, and you really wouldn't know the condition of the internals unless you tore the engine apart. Plus, as with any install, you're going to encounter unexpected, unwanted problems resulting in more time and more cost.

At the end of the day, you'd be at ~ 210 hp 315 ftlbs at 12 lbs of boost, intercooled and forged...but then that's in a perfect world. The engine's condition may lower those numbers some and you really don't know how reliable it may be.

For the price and hassle, you may just want to look into a v8 car...the supercoupe swap may leave you looking for more and even after it's said and done, it won't have that v8 sound nor feel...the 3.8's just aren't rev happy.

Re: Wanting to make my V6 ALOT faster!!

Keep in mind that a stock 5.0 from a 94-95 GT makes 215hp and 285ftlbs. That's your starting point with the v8. M&FF's did a supercoupe build a while ago and after pulley swaps, MAF/filter changes, catback exhausts, and a lot of tuning they made 230rwhp and 330 ftlbs of torque. I'd say you could make that with a 5.0L after some engine work and exhaust...and then there's FI.

So there's definitely some power available by using the supercoupe engine, ~250rwhp after some swapping and tuning, but you have to collect all the parts, install, then hope nothing goes wrong. To me, I'd rather have the v8 car as a better platform.

So if I did that swap would I be able to beat a 1990 5.0 with cold air intake and 3:73 gearing??

Re: Wanting to make my V6 ALOT faster!!

90 5.0 V8
225hp 300ftlbs

0-60: 6.4
1/4: 14.9

89-90's Supercoupe 3.8 V6
210hp 315ftlbs

0-60: 7.4
1/4: 15.9

Keep in mind these are some quick numbers I found. If he has gears it would be tough...those 5.0's have a torque curve that 3.8's can't match. That's why I'd go the v8 route. It'd be great to beat him in a 6, and it is possible don't get me wrong, but you'll spend more to get less in the long run.

Pretty much. I owned V6 Mustangs until I was 22-23 and wish I would have never gotten my second one. Way to much work and money involved and it just wasn't worth it in the end.

Well with just a few bucks more than that swap and all the hard work involved, that blue '95 would smash the **** out of it!!
