3.8 Heads

I know this is going to sound like a newbie question but...Are any of the production 3.8 heads better than the rest? Will a newer head bolt onto a 1986 block without any problems?
Thanks

Re: 3.8 Heads

You can bolt the heads on but 98-newer with split port you will need the intake and plenum and figure out the fuel setup since they only have one fuel line "no return line" fuel pressure is regulated in the tank. It would be a great upgrade both performance and reliability.

Re: 3.8 Heads

Okay this is kind of an old thread, but, it's exactly the topic I was looking for.
If you don't know, I have two mustangs.
2000 mustang v6, auto.
1994 mustang v6, auto.
The 2000 threw a rod and needs a new motor.

The 1994 has a fresh transmission and I'm in the process of trying to restore/upgrade her.
I know the 2000 needs a new motor, but can I use some of the intake parts to go onto the 1994 model?
I know the 99-up have the split port induction system, while the previous models do not. Rather than getting rid of these parts, could I put them to use in the 1994?

You would have to change the heads to split port and figure out a fuel return system or use a complete fuel sending unit out of a 98-04 mustang with one fuel line.
