CAI

I just got a cai from american muscle but didnt install yet. Its one of those wheel well mounted ones. Since the cone is in there and its of course winter, will snow or anything be kicked up in there and get to the cone?

Also smoked headlight covers such as these http://www.americanmuscle.com/9498-s...ht-covers.html

Are they illegal in NY for street use? Thanks

I'm not sure about NY but I had mine in FL and was pulled over a lot. I would look into the actual smoked headlights? That's what I plan on buying unless I can get my friend to tint mine in the body shop.

Give me a min and I'll attach the photo of his car. It's not letting me on the app at the moment.

Re: CAI

if it rains hard enough I would worry. If its a bit up its ok, but in my case my filter sits on the VERY bottom of the inner fender lining so VERY low... so I dont like driving it in the rain.

Re: CAI

well a little water is fine, to much water can stall the engine, if to much water gets into the engine it can hydro lock the motor (BAD).

Overall im sure its ok, main issues are puddles and deep water that can splash up on the filter.

Do you have a picture of the system to see how far down in the fender it goes?

Re: CAI

that CAI is like my old MAC one was, the air filter will sit right inside the fender, not down lower as my current setup does. It should be fine. I drove my 01 with that style every day for a long time with no issues. the filter is a good bit up in the fender and its hard for anything to reach it water wise.

Remember on the back of the CAI is a little hole where the IAT sensor goes, in 01 they moved this inside the MAF sensor so you will have to plug that hole if you have an 01+

Re: CAI

Regarding the intake...you'll be fine. I have the same kit (99+ v6) and I've ended up driving in some pretty serious rain and the filter was fine. Just be careful when installing things in the cold...materials stiffen up and bolts become stubborn...don't want to snap any bolts or crack any parts.

As far as the headlights...I'd stay away from those stick on headlight covers...they don't always stay adhered to the lights, and dirt/buildup will accumulate after time and make them look bad.

I'd look into either getting the headlights tinted (spray or vinyl) or some dark smoked headlights...they are pretty sharp but could attract unwanted attention from the 5.0

I got the intake on last night, didnt notice anything performance wise but there is a little whistle now.. I think im going to just save up for whole new headlights. Tjere were some nice black ones on ebay for 110. Do cops really pull you over for those?

There is no performance gain to be had with a cai when installed on a 94-04. 05 seem to show gains but ford pretty much got this one perfect

Depends on the state law. I have really dark taillights and haven't been pulled over once for them down here in NC.

Re: CAI

you probably picked up a couple hp/tq or so~ but its not a huge gain that you can easily feel.

Wouldn't pick up anything if the tune is the same... The edge body intakes aren't restrictive til you hit over 400 hp and due to a velocity loss on the intake side she woulda lost torque. I had a k&n one on my car. The speedshop I was gonna buy it from had a used one so they let me try it before I bought it and it cost me power on the low end.... I had better luck with the silencer removed. Like I said already. A cai provides no gain to a na 94-04 mustang

Another question: i just saw a flowmaster muffler with a dual outlet. How would that make out for a dual exhaust? Anyone done this before?

Me 2. I love Borla. I've had flowmaster too and Borla sounds better on 6 than flowmaster.
