Taking cats off 01 mustang?

Does a 2001 v6 sound good with all the cats taken off? I have 2 but I want to take the other 2 off. Will it sound good? And how much louder will it be?

Re: Taking cats off 01 mustang?

I personally think its to loud, the V6 sounds ok at idle and will without cats, but anything above 2500 starts to sound... well you know. It will just get worse.

Maybe you should look on YouTube and listen to a few with/without and make your decision.

I personally like mine without in my six but it's all personal preference and also make sure you don't have to have a car inspection in your state. In FL we don't.

K. Sounds good to me. As long as it's not a crappy sound and it's loud. Thanks. Does anyone know a comparison to 2cats off to all off? You tube is difficult to judge that stuff on

Somebody told me taking the remaining two cats off will sound crappy and I should just leave the remaining ones on. Agree or disagree? Anyone?

Re: Taking cats off 01 mustang?

it will get louder, but it wont sound better. Loud is not always equal to good. People tell me all the time I need to take my cats off... I dont want mine any louder lol

Re: Taking cats off 01 mustang?

Yes in the v6's case, louder isn't better imo. A quieter, more mellow v6 sounds better over a droney weedwhacker sound from an o/r x-pipe and straight thru mufflers.

I'd keep the cats or look into a catted midpipe if you only want 2...sound quality won't decrease that way.

I have a v8 with no cats and straight pipes with an xpipe. It sounds mean and it's a good way to scare ricers when they pull up next to you. But the cabin noise is too much. I get a massive headache if I drive too long on the freeway

Re: Taking cats off 01 mustang?

i got mines cut off and i have no regrets. you should notice about a 15 to 20 percent increase in sound. if i where you, id put custom pipes on (magna flow or flow masters) wit no catz. making your v6 sound like a v8.

A cai doesn't do anything but look nice... I thought that was already made clear. Headers will provide a power gain. This one is a no brainer

I dont have a hood scoop on mine so I can't help you with that one. If you have questions about different parts, feel free to start a new thread if you're questions aren't getting answered here.

Who? As staff, I think if they aren't answered here that you can post another thread. That's what the forums are for. If you are posting a bunch if random BS I can understand not posting more threads.

No problem! It's your choice. Here or another thread. If you post in a new thread with what you want answered, people may click on it and give you an answer right away since they won't know to come into this thread to give advice since the topic is about "cats"
