Re: new carpet and console

Painting is all in the prep work done. The vinyl needs to be completely dry and degreased. Isopropyl alcohol works really well for this. Don't skimp when it comes to buying the interior paint either, you get what you pay for. Then it only comes down to the skills you have with a spray can. Hope this helps!

Re: new carpet and console

I prefer Krylon if I buy spray paint. I think they have a specific one just for plastic and vinyl. I have personally never painted an interior, but I have done some amazing to me spray bomb jobs on exteriors. Like I said, good prep equals good paint results!

Re: new carpet and console

Well I have heard the same about the Krylon Fusion paint. I spray painted my brake calipers and they seem to come out well. I put three coats on.

Yes it does say to use multiple times. It does give you a nice coat. Just BEWARE OF RUNS! they can kill you. 6 inches apart and nice easy strokes. Take your time and it will turn out great don't rush it.

Yes, make sure it is "Dye Paint"- Interior dye paint. It has all the adhesion primers ect. inside and ready to go.

Re: new carpet and console

ive done 2 interiors in black. making sure it is completly clean cant be stressed enough, as stated by 93cobra. i think i used amonia and water. i did the carpet (was blue or gray) and the seats. i used extra concentrated rit dye on the seats and the carpet. (carpet looked new when done..wow).

the plastic....the more coats you apply, the shinier it will be..regardless if your using a flat black. if you are into the "freshly armor all'd" look...then definatley apply 6 coats. if you prefer a less shinier (flatter appearance) then you may wanna only do 2 coats.

the seats...everyone i know that's done a dye/paint job, including myself. the seats look nice and black when still wet. but after they completly dry a few hrs or the next day... they turn into this real dark grey charcoal color. ive used the rit dye...still dark grey. ive used the fabric dye in the spray can...within 24-48hrs..dark grey. for whatever reason the dye doesnt take well to the seats. i thought i was doing something wrong till i saw it on other ppl's cars. maybe there's a product i didnt use or a process i didnt do correctly.

everything turned out super black as intended except for the seats. however, the "real dark charcoal grey/black" doesnt look horrible on an all black interior. i found that the only ppl that knew it wasnt factory was other ppl that had dyed theirs too..lol.

i hope this helps...
