Pypes true dual off road exhaust for 2000 v6 mustang

I found these on American Muscle ordering them today. Anyone with exhaust experience with exhaust that excludes catalytic converters? These pypes do not have catalytic converters will my engine light come on? What can I expect?

the engine light will come on, the car will drive though. The only way to turn the light off is MIL eliminators (plug in on the O2 sensors) or a tune.

Re: Pypes true dual off road exhaust for 2000 v6 mustang

its basically a little thing that goes between the oxygen sensor plug in and the hardness and tells the computer "all is ok" so it doesnt turn the check engine light on. Ive heard issues with them kinda working but not all the time, I have no personal experience with them. I had mine turned off via the tuner (even though I have all my cats lol)

Are you installing the exhaust yourself or having someone do it?

Re: Pypes true dual off road exhaust for 2000 v6 mustang

Ok, keep in mind the Pypes brand exhausts have been known to have fitment issues. My setup that I bought back in 06 had to be modified and cut slightly to fit.

So if whoever is installing says that they need to either cut some pipe or do some small modifications for the system to fit, don't be surprised...it may be so.

Overall Pypes offers great products, good sound, decent price, and decent quality (no rust or crap welds), but the fitment issues have been around for some time.

Re: Pypes true dual off road exhaust for 2000 v6 mustang

Keep in mind this is a hit or miss thing. Some people have had zero issue and some have had to cut and fit. I wouldn't worry about it that much...who knows, the full x-pipe exhaust kit might not have any install issues. I just wanted to let you know so if something did happen you weren't caught off guard. Keep us updated.

One thing you may also consider is to go ahead and do headers while you're at it. The performance gain may not be huge, but the stock manifolds are notorious for cracking. It will probably have to be done eventually anyway...

Re: Pypes true dual off road exhaust for 2000 v6 mustang

Yah good point...no sense in paying to have the exhaust torn apart a separate time to get new headers installed...however, with that Pypes system you'll be limited to shorties, unless you get long tubes and have the shop do some fabbing to make everything work.

Just something to think about before you have the system installed.

And I think it was the catted off road that had the bad review. And 1999 had the most issues.

Yah I'd say you'll be fine man...9/10 times the exhaust has no issues...I had a slight fitment issue but it wasn't anything my mechanic couldn't solve.

I will. Hopefully it's another mustang success. I've never met a problem yet I couldn't solve on this mustang.

Get some before and after sound clips for future reference when the exhaust questions come up again. And good luck with the install. Hope it goes off without a hitch
