Wink V6 exaust...didn't know what to do.

I looked at different set ups and systems and mufflers for months.
Ugh i was sick of it. Today I simply got the muffler cut out and replaced with normal pipe and now I have exhaust that i'm happy with for only $25

I may add a muffler in the future b/c it's pretty loud but heck, im happy for now.
this is a good idea for anyone who wants a cheap exhaust mod!

*please note that the cops may not be happy with you

yea many 05+ gt's do this and it sounds pretty good. On the bright side if you do decide to do a true dual exhaust catback that are of pipe has to be removed anyway so this is a cheap way to give something a try.

so you simply replace the muffler with regular exhaust piping? cause i really want a loud sound that people will notice, but i don't have 500 dollars to get a full system. i was looking into taking out the catalytic converter, but i don't trust myself when it comes to cars and tools.

That's exactly what i did. I If i can find the time to stop being lazy i'll post a video or something so you can hear it! Sounds really good IMO.

I think's it's exactly what your looking for, and yes people notice, it's loud, and it's super cheap. Most shops would do it for say..well..don't let them charge you over $50.

well i youtubed a few videos and i kinda have an idea of what it'd sound like. i think i'm gonna go that route. probably gonna take out the catalytic converter and replace the muffler with a straight pipe. but a video would be nice, i know i'm probably one in a million but i absolutely love anything that has to do with mustangs so any videos or pictures would be rad.

Re: V6 exaust...didn't know what to do.

Yah it sounds good...basically the stock tone in a louder form.

I'd recommend to anyone else that they do it the same way as bobbytheapple and leave the cats...the v6's tend to have a "loud and annoying" tone rather than a "good loud" when catless.

Or if you want to take it a step forward and have a single aftermarket muffler installed that would be fairly inexpensive as well. Any exhaust done for $100 or less can't be beat!

Re: V6 exaust...didn't know what to do.

I'm not sure what taking out the cats would do. I'm afraid to to any thing else without adding a muffler because i might find my self in a plate of fried rice lol.

I wish i could get a lower rumble sound.

Cut out their muffler. Ive heard it in person and it sounds like an 87 corolla. When compared to an exhaust done correctly there is a night and day difference. Saving enough to do it right is worth the wait.

i'm not one that knows much about correctly done exhaust, but i do know it's a helluva lot more expensive than cutting out the muffler.

You can probably get a cutback system for around 200 on eBay or craigslist

Take your time and check the forums and craigslist often, I have seen some amazing deals like a full gt catback for $100. Besides taking the cheap route just means you will spend more to fix it down the road. There are a lot of sixxers around here that drive around with no mufflers or even with no exhaust to speak of, it make me feel embarrassed for them. I know the feeling of wanting to make your stang unique and stylish as soon as possible, but the wait is ALWAYS worth it.

I had divorced duals with flowmaster 40's and 3" stainless tips and didn't care for it, today I had a custom h pipe welded in for 40 bucks. It sounds great now, all in all cost about 400 and I'm very happy with it. It can be done for a lot cheaper if you poke around for some good deals.

You don't like the way flowmasters sound, but you like it with no muffler? To each his own I guess.

My neighbor has an old corolla with a rusted out muffler, horrible sounding I might add, and it sounds identical to my 94 stang when I take off the muffler. I know everyone has their own opinions when it comes to how an exhaust sounds, but I've never heard anybody say that a rusted out corolla sounds good........

in your opinion, would a new muffler and tailpipe create a nicer sound than simply taking out the muffler?

Without a doubt, it may not be much louder however.

Best thing to do is listen to a few different setups in person. Find what YOU like and go with it. I will say anything worth doing is worth doing right, and right is never cheap.

In person would be ideal. And to the above post yes a set of resonators or mufflers would sound better than no muffler. I ditched my mufflers then the noise got so irritating I bought another stocker and bolted it on. Exhaust shouldn't be a half-assed effort. The exhaust shows off all the motor improvements and shouldn't be an after-thought

Very true. I've tried the no muffler deal with my 94, sure it's cheap, but it also advertises to everyone else that knows anything about mustangs that you 1, don't have an ear for a good exhaust and 2, you are not a serious mustanger. In my eyes it is just as bad to stick a huge Honda wing and fart can on a mustang as it is strip the muffler off of a sixxer.

I drive a V6 Mustsng...clearly I can't have good exaust or be serious(without spending huge bucks). I was just trying to show people like me(that don't want to drop too much $ into a V6) what there options were. It's your money, do what you want but I don't want hear it if you have nothing good to say.

I don't have alot of experience with sixxers but perhaps I can help with direction. Were you planning to x or h pipe. Magnaflow has a great sound for a sixxer. Gives it a deep tone

Re: V6 exaust...didn't know what to do.

I was originally gonna go x w/ magnaflow. But since i'm low on cash w/ no job im gonna keep my cheap solution for now.
What i'll more than likely do is keep the stock y pipe and add a magnaflow (which one do you think would be best?)
Over time i want to add gears, tlok, and buy a tuner. I might add wheels...
After that im going to try my best to stay away from anys mods untill i find my self in a V8
