Automatic trany

I have a automatic tranny and I want to know if putting o/d off bad for the tranny and or using the 1st and 2nd gear then put it on d to go to third bad for the tranny. I have a lot if more power when I start off on 1st gear then shift to 2nd then 3rd gear put it on drive . If I do this a lot could I mess up my tranny

Re: Automatic trany

when you manually shift the car it wont add to the car at all, it wont make any more power. Basically all you are doing is telling the car where to shift at.

With a good tune for the car leaving it in drive will yield better performance results as the car can then shift better than you can manually.

I used to want to do this with my old 97 V6... but it didnt help I ended up realizing I just really wanted a manual transmission and finally got one in my next car lol.

Some say manually shifting will hurt the car, not sure why really~ and overdrive is just another gear, nothing special so leaving it off just means you wont shift into 4th gear.

When I shift 1st n 2nd gear manually I feel a lot more power when I floor it on drive from being stop I don't even peel out maybe just for like a second when I floor it on 1st I peel out for 3 or more seconds and it picks up faster and 2nd too. When I have it on drive 1st n 2nd is really slow doesn't feel like I'm not hitting the gas the rpm doesn't even go up prolly goes to 4,000 rpm

It still shifts though. It's a safety feature and I has he exact same power.

Re: Automatic trany

I would say go to the track and run it back to back and see which one works better for you

Good idea. Then you will have a real number to compare to not just the butt dyno

Re: Automatic trany

To eliminate any guessing buy an SCT tuner from American Muscle or VMP Tuning.

Either does great work regarding custom tunes and your auto will benefit from it immensely. It's definitely worth the ~$400 if you have an auto.
