Throttle bodies with cai???

I wanna get a throttle body with my cold air intake. However my friend told me that's not really worth it. Throttle bodys are for stock intakes and cold air intakes for stock throttle bodies. I know this is BS however I wanna know what y'all think....

Re: Throttle bodies with cai???

I would just get a good tuner to start out with. The money you spend on a throttle body will probably almost be wasted without a tune to go with it anyway, so I would definitely do a tuner first.

Unless you have a pretty signifgant number of mods to your motor; ie cams, ported heads, bigger valves, stroked motor, better intake.... the list goes on, you will not feel a considerable difference. CAIs on stock cars are not going to give you any gains, just trouble.

Re: Throttle bodies with cai???

The CAI is more or less a show mod, plus the whistle between shifts
You can pick one up for $75 on AM or a cheaper Bomz on ebay.

The stock throttle body is fine for a stock to moderately modded v6. Once you get into built internals, FI and are pushing some serious power, you'll need the larger mm t/b.

So I wouldn't bother spending the $250 on a t/b. Save it and buy some gears and/or a tuner.

Re: Throttle bodies with cai???

A hot topic.
BBK once sent me some scientific research results in regards to the larger diameter body piece. They want to justify their claims when using one without ported intakes. I got one from somebody here for $50.00. Got an ignition coil in the deal too so it made me feel good getting one.
A CAI is a integral part of the big picture when putting bolt-ons inside the car. Starts there. Like mentioned above, I too have a generic CAI with a K&N filter and it works great. A CAI, VAP Intake Spacer, and a true dual exhaust together are an example of something to work with when getting your dyno tune.
And yes, it looks good doing it's thing.

If your going to get a CAI get a MAF instead of the throttle body. Aftermarket MAF's or so much less restrictive than stock MAF's.

Re: Throttle bodies with cai???

the stock MAF while it is small on the 94-04 V6 in stock or near stock form is more than enough. It is something to consider though if you are getting close to 300hp.
