Yes, if the check engine light is on, the computer is putting your car into a sort of "safe mode".

so a custom tune will turn of the check engine light and make it safe? been wondering this as well. I plan on getting a tune and everything after all my parts are installed wasn't gonan buy mil elim if they weren't needed. Just a waste of $50 basically?

Right. The person tuning it can bypass the after cat 02's.
