Are you talking about highway mileage, or city? Do you have your foot in it a lot?

Lots of things factor into mileage, more details would be nice. Such as: year, tranny, mods, driving habits, engine mileage and service habits/ what you've done to try to get better mpg....etc... 18 is not terrible if your right foots heavy or you do lots of city driving.

Re: such bad gas mileage

My 06 v6 auto , gets about 18 all around if i keep my foot out of it / it has a cold air, tuner , 3.73's and duals .... but if I'm on the highway she seems to get around 25 , so 18's not so bad .....
but i do notice that if i baby the crap out of it it'll get close to 20 all around driving ,
BUT WHO DRIVES LIKE THAT !!!??

On another note my 03 Mach 1 GETS BETTER Gas mileage and it has 4.10's so WTF?

Re: such bad gas mileage

My Roush can get as low as 9mpg or so messing around, but it will get 24 on the highway...

I had an 05GT with 4.10's and it got around 25mpg highway if you kept it under 70...

Re: such bad gas mileage

My 95 gets 20 in the city. I have a heavy foot too. I also have a 5 speed with 2.73 gears in it. 18 mpg for a 2000 is about right. The newer models aren't that great with has milage like the older mustangs were.

Re: such bad gas mileage

I've been using an online tracker called Fuelly.com:

I'm under 18 mpg but I'm enjoying the power and sound of my GT more often than I expected. I'm probably around 15-16 mpg around town & 20-21 mpg highway.

My GT gets around 20mpg city. I don't have to put my foot in it as much to get it to 40mph. Lol but the way I look at it, you will get better city millage with 4.10s cuz it wont take as much to get it up to speed.

Re: such bad gas mileage

people always assume that the v6 will get much better gas mileage than the V8. I have owned two 3.8L mustangs and both got ok gas mileage but not great....

Most if it is in how you drive and how the car is taken care of and maintained, sensors cleaned, little things.

Manage how much gas you use and slow down on the interstate, 55-60mph is the sweet spot.

Driving habits and it takes more for the six to just keep up with traffic. The gt doesn't have to push as hard to keep up. Fuel economy should never be a reason to buy a 6 instead.

I get 26 highway and about 18 city with 3.90s. And my foot is pretty heavy but it doesn't take much to keep up with traffic.
