possible swap? is it worth it?

got a friend of mine with an 4.6 V8 that he's lookin to get rid of real cheap. problem is it is out of a 98 Grand Marquis. I'm guessing that compression, heads, etc would be somewhat different, right? would i see a huge difference in HP? and how bad would it be to fit this engine in my 04 V6?

i know doing a V6 to V8 swap is usually not recommended because of high cost and time consumption but being i have a DD already i think it could be fun

Re: possible swap? is it worth it?

It's the same motor as any other 4.6 V8, so it would not be difficult to fit into your car. It would obviously need supporting items, but the motor itself isn't really an issue.

It would be a good bump from where you're at right now depending on which 4.6L it is. I Can't remember if it is a 4v or a 2v motor.

It would definitely be a fun project if you had the time and money to do it.

Ok....like i Said, you'd need a bunch of supporting parts, but the motor will just drop into your car without too much hassle....with the only unknown for me right now being the upper intake on the motor...but it will fit without hassle....and will bolt right to your existing k-member.

Re: possible swap? is it worth it?

just got some more info. not selling engine only, selling whole car. the car was wrecked in the front end but suffered body damage only. engine has 202k miles and had a top-end rebuild at 150k.

could the computer and such be used from this car in my 04?

also, what about tranny? and i'm pretty sure i would have to beef up my rear end, right?

Re: possible swap? is it worth it?

I believe the 98 2 valves were around 215 hp @ 4200 RPM & 285 lb-ft @ 3400 RPM....so you'd be gaining about 20 hp...hmmm....so maybe it isn't as big of a jump as I thought except for maybe the bump in torque. Forgot your stock torque numbers.

Not sure on your other questions off the top of my head, I'd have to look up all the details.

Re: possible swap? is it worth it?

def. not worth all the trouble for 20hp.. i'd rather put the same work/money in the 3.9 for a better gain.

Thx for the info!

Tq is 225 if I remember correctly for the six, so to go to 285 would be a good bump, not to mention it would sound better....

Re: possible swap? is it worth it?

May not be huge HP gain but you get two things.
-That ever so wonderful v8 sound
-And a little bit more torque.

Just my
