want to get a GT hood

I have a 99' v6 with the regular hood but I like the GT hood where the hood's cowl is open. I want to find one and put it on my v6 but will it fit? is the GT hood the same as the v6 or does it have a ram intake or something on the cowl?

Yes it will fit ur v6 theres no ram intake. You can just buy the scoop and drill the holes in ur v6 hood and bolt the scoop down. It will look just like the gt hood.

Ummmm not quite. The scoop is seamless. You would need body filler and paint. Just find the hood you like...it's a bolt on

Re: want to get a GT hood

How would the scoop fit in though? Over the hood or would I have to cut a hole in the hood?

Re: want to get a GT hood

I would just go with a replacement GT hood if I were you, it would look a lot cleaner. You might even be able to find one the same color as your car at a parts yard if you are lucky!

Hate to disagree, but the scoops are not seamless. They just bolt on. You just have to make sure the holes you drill are lined up correctly. Ask SpectorV. He did this on his black V6 and it looked just like a GT. The scoop alone will be a lot cheaper than the entire hood, assuming you can still find them.

Re: want to get a GT hood

you just need the hood scoop, thats all the GT has is a scoop thats bolted on top of the stock V6 hood (up till 04, the 04 has a different hood for the V6)

For 99-00 it also can be installed but it is a bit harder than 01-03. The reason 01-03 are easier is thats why the GT started having the hood scoop and ford modified the underside of the hood a bit for installation of a scoop. The V6 has the same hood as the GT minus the added on scoop.

Back in the day the scoop was 100 bucks painted~ now not so sure. If you can find one at a junk yard you can unbolt it from the bottom and pop it off rather easy.

I have installed on an 00 model and an 01 model so I can do either, but the 99-00 models the part you have to do is measure all angles so you know where to center it on the hood and make a template and drill the holes, not hard just takes a little time. Feel free to PM me and we can go over the logistics of it.

Re: want to get a GT hood

the stick on is not the OEM looking one I bet, I am not sure I would trust that.

for 99-00 you just have to measure exactly where the scoop is and transfer those measurements to your hood. Then take a cardboard piece thats flat and sit the scoop on it and punch the holes where the bolts are. Tape the template down exactly where the scoop needs to go (outline the scoop and cut i tout when its pushed down on the cardboard) then after its taped down drill the holes, drill a couple and test fit.

Go around that way. For the very front one GET IT RIGHT take your time, for the angled ones... they are tricky you may have to drill the hole bigger as if the bolts dont line up right they can bind and keep the scoop from sitting flush.

One last thing if its 01-03 if you take the hood mat out from under the hood (do this for any year first dont drill through it lol) you can see two silver dollar holes towards the back middle, thats where the two back bolts go so you can drill those out and then just sit the template on the hood stick some pins in the hole to line it up, tape it down and drill put a bit of lock tite on the bolts and snug em down.

If you would like a OEM scoop Id go with Tousley Ford. They have good prices and have an awesome customer service.

Like bburnt302 said they just bolt in if the drilled hopes are lined up correctly. Ive done a few at work and they are pretty simple.

Re: want to get a GT hood

Thanks spectorv im going to look around the junk yard and ebay and see if I can find the scoop. Oh its for a 1999, I know AM has a scoop but I like the rounded look. When I find a scoop I'll post it up. Thanks for the info, also does the GT scoop vented into the motor or is the scoop closed off like the v6?

Re: want to get a GT hood

its not functional.. just bolt on.

and as mentioned the 04 V6 hood is different and it sucks. to get the GT look i would have to get a whole new hood. but i kinda like my reverse scoop.

Re: want to get a GT hood

the scoop is just for looks and should have a grill at the front of it to close it off (honey comb grill)
