Good buy?

Hey everyone. I've been looking for another Mustang for awhile (my first car was a '72) and while I've been looking for the car, I've also been looking around on the internet, reading forums, etc. This one seems to be pretty decent and from what I can tell the people seem pretty decent compared to a lot of the other ones I've checked out.
Anyway, I think I've finally found something decent, just thought I'd see what you all thought. A buddy's wife has a 2000 3.8 automatic. The body is in decent shape with the most noticeable thing being dent on the drivers side behind the scoop on the door. The check engine light is on. She said she took it in and they told her it was probably a gas cap or leak in the filler neck. That shouldn't be a big deal to fix. It needs at least front brake pads.
Everything else on it is in pretty good shape. They have a kid on the way and need to get out of it pretty quick, so I can get it for $1000. Is it worth it?

How many miles does it have on it? I think that's a hell of a deal. If I could get one that cheap id Prolly buy it just as a project car

That's really cheap, I'd look for more issues. And never take someone's word on cel's, always check them yourself.

Re: Good buy?

That is a damn good price... For a price that low, you can afford an issue or two.. Sounds almost too cheap...

Re: Good buy?

I sold a 99 GT a couple years ago to a friends son for $2,400... It had some tornado damage, but had all new windows and was in excellent mechanical shape... I thought I was helping out a Mustang nut but he quickly sold it for a profit, and bought a Camaro...

Re: Good buy?

Thanks guys. I really don't think there's any major problems with it. It has 133000 miles on it. I'm buying it from guy from work. I trust him enough that I don't think they're trying to hide anything. I'm pretty sure I'm going to jump on it, I just wanted to double check. I figured worst case if I hate it in couple years I can sell it and still come out ahead. I can't see that happening, I'm just saying.

A kid, about 11 or 12 walking by our house as I was washing the Roush Friday, and he said to me, "Wow, you have two Camaros?" and I said, "Get it right, they are MUSTANGS!"

I know the kid was just trying to engage me in conversation about the cars, but I had to straighten him out... What are they teaching kids in school these days?

Re: Good buy?

It will probably take a couple days but I let him know this morning that I'm going to take it. Yay for me!
As for kids and Mustangs, my Dad has an '09 GT. They live a couple states away but that's half of how my 3 year old remembers him - Grampa with the Mustang car. When he hears that they're coming to visit, he doesn't really care, he just has to make sure he brings his Mustang car.
