need help with a tuner fast!!

Hey guys, I found a guy with an sct tuner for his 97 gt. He said its unlocked and doesnt want much for it as he just totaled his car. Can I have this thing reprogrammed to work with my 03 sixxer? It's a smoking deal and I don't want to pass it up, but I don't want to buy something I can't use. American Muscle has two different ones for the GT and the six for sale, but I'm thinking that it's just the stock programming on it that makes the difference. I found the same tuner on another site and it says 96-10 v6 or gt, I'm guessing it just doesn't have the tunes. Anyway, give me some feedback!

Re: need help with a tuner fast!!

I had to pass on the tuner. I couldn't find the info I neededIt was 75 bucks but if I had to pay 160 for 3 tunes it would put me closer to a new one, so I think I'm just going to get the new one.

yea if its one that can have tunes loaded onto it if its unlocked you have to buy tunes and put on it~ so its not a huge savings probably.

I bought mine used. I would not go that route again. AM gives ya tunes for life and will custom tweak them for you. If you buy the gears too it works out ok as far as money goes.

I guess it's a matter of opinion. All my tuners have been used and I've never had a problem. I always had someone custom tune my car.

I think that's the key. If you are going to get custom tuning anyway (i.e. custom tuned on a dyno to your car, not some generic tune sent over the internet) then a used tuner can save you some money. You probably won't find anywhere willing to give you free custom tunes for life though so you are probably going to end up paying $50-$80 everytime you add a mod that needs a new tune.

If you don't need custom tuning then you could sign up for AM's $150 free Bama tunes for life program or just buy a single Bama tune from them.
