2000 v6 Mustang Help!

Hello, Im new to this forum and new to mustangs. I recently bought my first car which is a 2000 v6 mustang. The remote to lock/unlock the doors is broken and someone tried to steal the car and broke my lock. I cannot lock my door unless I want to climb through my trunk to unlock the doors. I was just wondering if a key cylinder from a 1998 mustang would work on my car as long as I get the tumblers matched to my key. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Yah it should... not 100% sure about a used cylinder from a 98, but I know some places like CJ Pony Parts (site sponsor) sell new universal key cylinders that you can match to your ignition key. As you said, you can set the tumblers and springs to your key.

Thanks! I already have the cylinder from a 1998 so I will probably go get the tumblers matched to my key tomorrow.

No problem, I would imagine a good locksmith would be able to re-adjust the tumblers for your key. Let us know how it goes

Update:

It all worked out fine. I can now lock/unlock my door with the key! I even got the key cylinder to fit in better because you could tell someone tried to break in now you can't.

Thanks for the help!

Good to hear...if you wanted to get your fob re-programmed you probably could thru a local ford dealership...it will probably be somewhat pricey (compared to the key cylinders) but is nice to have. Just putting it out there

It isn't dumb at all...in your first post you mentioned that your remote to lock/unlock the doors was broke...I figured that was your fob.

The fob is the square remote that usually comes on your key ring and has 3 buttons...a lock, an unlock and a panic alarm (orange soft button).

Most cars came with keyless entry (fobs), so I'd guess your 00 did when it was new.

Ok, yeah the guy I bought the car from gave me the remote that is exactly like the one in the pic but it doesn't work. The locksmith that I went to sells factory replacements for about $90. I'm probably going to pick one up next week.

Alright man. The remote(fob) has to be programmed to operate your vehicle. I'm not sure if there is a procedure you can do yourself or if you have to get the dealer to do it. Also can check with a ford dealership parts department and they can see if your car came with the keyless entry option. I may not have that option. Good luck.
