SCT Tuner comes in today

I ordered my tuner 2 weeks ago. And it's coming in today hopefully if the weather doesn't get that bad... But has anyone have experience in tuning?

It's gonna have preset tunes in it. Just go with those. I wouldn't try to do a lot of custom settings if I were you. Shoot is some questions that you may have if you decide to do anything extra with the tuner other than preset programs.

I believe that AM can send you reflashes as you do more mods. Not sure. Mine is custom tuned.

They made the tunes custom to your upgrades/mods so that you get the most out of them. Each performance mod you do they will send you a new tune for the the added part (you have to request the tune)

And make sure you don't load the 93 tune if you are running 87 gas...not sure what tunes they sent you, but don't run the 93 tune until you run the 87 out of your tank and fill up with 93.

And just a follow up....No, an octane booster is NOT going to bring your 87 up to 93...just in case that was a question that might pop into your head.

What if you are trying to switch back to the 87 tune what would you do. I know running 93 tune on 87 causes serious problems. But what about running 93 for a little while cause your switching back to 87.

Absolutely correct. The only way to significantly raise octane is toluene, everyone and xylene. I just put a gallon of xylene into my tank. We cannot get 93 here but 91 plus a gallon of any of those 3 on a full tank will bring you up a couple of points.

You won't see any issues with running 93 on an 87 tune. I just wouldn't continue to fill up with 93 on the 87 tune since you will just be throwing money away....unless you have detonation when running 87.

But that one tank of 93 isn't going to hurt you on an 87 tune.

Do you know how much you gained? I bet you could feel it pretty good under the pedal. I want a handheld tuner eventually. Good to know all this stuff.

Well my paper that came with the tuner showing my custom tunes, the performance tune jus has 87. Could I still put 93? And how low do I have to go on gas to start getting 93?

If the performance tune is for 87, putting 93 in will do nothing other than help your power to weight ratio by removing extra dollars from your wallet.

Do you have to rid higher octane gas with just the performance tune?

The tuner is already set for your car and mods....do not play with it unless you change tire size or swap rear gears. You just learned how to install the tune with your SCT so I wouldnt suggest "playing" with it.

Good luck and have fun.
