Re: ngk iridium ix spark plugs

No noticeable change. No need to run the iridium plugs at all...specially for the price tag you are looking at. You could change your plugs at every oil change (like I do) with the copper plugs and still not pay more than buying all iridium.

Now, I did have a better idle when I ran them....but it still isn't worth the price tag.

I have before and after dyno charts...namely tuned one day with coppers, then attended a dyno day another day same dyno with irridiums...numbers are basically the same....within 2-3 hp of each other.

I've heard the claim as well...and bought into it for a while (2 sets of iridiums)...then realized I was just tossing money away.

But if you're running a stock/stockish 6er, you would for sure just be throwing away money on plugs.

Yeah. Who knows, maybe it was just my "low HP" cobra that didn't make a difference.

It's a crap shoot really. It might make a change in one car, it may hurt another. I know some people that put them in and it hurt their idle...where as mine it improved and smoothed out my idle. Each car reacts differently, but to pay I think it was $8-10 a plug and then hope you don't break the time when re-gapping them like I did....it's just not worth the money. Besides, you're really not going to feel a 5 hp difference if it is there.

But for sure though, like you said, it won't be worth it in a NA V6'er.

Re: ngk iridium ix spark plugs

true . but he tells me me the copper ones have a tendency to miss fire under high boost ,where the iridium's do not ........

That is definitely true...it will take a tighter gap in a copper plug to prevent the blow out issue which in turn is what causes the slight issues I had with the idle.

Right now I have my copper plugs gapped .030 where as I was able to run a .034 on the iridiums and I still have a tick of blow out up top only running 19 psi. I plan to change the gap to .028 when I bump up to 21 psi here in a few weeks.

Re: ngk iridium ix spark plugs

in other words, the pressure from the boost actually blows the spark out ,causing the miss fire ....

High 590's - low 600's on the 19 psi depending on the dyno...shooting for 650's on the 21 psi....on 93 octane too.

Re: ngk iridium ix spark plugs

I think it's not worth it to put iridium for the gain you might have, too much money.
I just put in some doble platinums and it's idling really smooth and nice

Re: ngk iridium ix spark plugs

I think for a stock v6 even a stock GT I'd just stick to the OEM plugs set at the proper gapping.

K.,,under boost or nitrous it's the gap that's important. Iridium plugs will detonate with nitrous. Stick with copper. Even if you gotta change em often. I just found out the hard way with the iridium plugs and nitrous. Blew out a head. Going 4v tho. Like that's a consolation
