Here in the Ford world we call that Trac Lok. It's when both drive wheels are locked together with clutches in the differential. It makes both tires grab traction instead of just one, which is called an open differential or one wheel peel.

Ok. I was gonna say... I know what TLock is. Thanks for clearing it up

Re: The next upgrade...

Your best bet is to fine a 9inch chunk that is 3.73s that you can just put right in. I know I have a few sitting around. I'm going to be doing that this summer. Putting a whole chunk in is easier than putting all those gears and clutchs in seperate and possibly messing something up.

That's a good and easy idea.

Re: The next upgrade...

That is an easier alternative...pick up an 8.8" rear from a GT or other solid rear axle car and bolt it up. Pick up some quad shocks, taller gears and a tlok re-build kit and you're set. Then you'd be set for FI or major power increases in the future.

A 7.5" tlok and gears would suffice for a stock/near stock v6. Expect to pay 150-180 each for the gears and tlok and anywhere from 300-500+ for install depending on the shop. Keep in mind installing gears is no simple matter and even a shop can make mistakes which will result in gear whine. It is crucial to get a written agreement from the shop saying that any gear whine is caused by improper install and will be adjusted...that usually weeds out the crap shops that wouldn't install the gears right in the first place.
