alternator trouble

Today my alternator went out and won't even show 8 volts. Is this common in mustangs? I'm gonna take it to oreillys tomorrow to get it checked out. This has been my first problem for my stang :*(

Re: alternator trouble

It's common for all cars really, not necessarily Mustangs.

What...changing the alternator. Piece of cake for ya. Just don't undo the the routing of the belt. Loosen off the bolts, once it's just a matter of pulling them off then take off the tension and remove the alternator. I found this out the hard way them routed the belt wrong. You should manage pretty easy.

If you want to learn how to do things yourself on your car, pick up a Haynes repair manual at the local parts store. I think Advance Auto carries them. Great book to invest in for $15-$20.
Other than that, lots of great info online.

I have the book my dad told me to buy it. We have them all for our cars. The alternator is in there? Like repairing it?

Honestly. Your better of replacing and I think the parts store will pay you for the old one.

Yup, replacing it is in there. Give it a read, you'll be surprised how easy it is.

Lol, my dad does the same thing... He used to rebuild cars back in the day, and his fastest was an AMC AMX with a 390...

My dads z28 had a 302 said it would do 1/4 miles in 12. Pretty good for that day and age

How much does a stock alternator cost? O looked at ones online and it's a ripoff. I thought they were 60, 70 bucks
