I wanna know why...

They tell u in that thing that Brent posted 4.10s for auto 3.55/3.73s for standard 6 speed right? Well I have an automatic I wanna know why 4.10s? Why do all my mechanics think 4.10s is a little to steep??? The post that was posted up by Brent didn't answer my question. Hope some of y'all can. Let's really find the answer here...

Re: I wanna know why...

the simple idea behind auto = 4.10 and manual - 3.73 is the gearing, the auto has different gearing so the final rpm level remains the same end result~ thats why, always factor in the gearing its VERY important, but remember auto only has 4 gears in those years for some stupid reason.

Re: I wanna know why...

If I end up keeping my GT, it will get 4.10's. Are the "mechanics" you are talking to "car guys" as well? Have they ever built cars before? I hope you aren't talking about the guys behind the counter at Auto Zone.

Re: I wanna know why...

4:10s in a manual are great. They grab easy and spin as well. In an auto 4:10s are good as well just because of the gearing. In a manual. 5 speed with a v6 3:55s are the lowest I'd go if you don't have many mods done for HP. Geariing is really what matters when trying to get a good hook up.

Re: I wanna know why...

4.10's ftw.

I've had them in an Automatic V6 and a 5 speed cobra. Loved every second of them...

I even pulled 24mpg in 5th gear cruising at 80mph in my old cobra.
