Can anyone tell me what the horsepower rating is for a '96 stang 3.8, and is that at the wheels or crank?

Re: V6 power

94 and 95 3.8's were rated at 145 hp and 215 tq -crank
96-98 3.8's were rated at 150 hp and 215 tq - crank

You'd probably see ~ 120 rwhp on a dyno in stock form (based on 20% parasitic loss)

The basic bolt ons will wake the car up when compared to stock form, but won't add a ton of hp. The best mod you can do without doing forced induction or seriously building the engine is a 99+ swap, from single port to split port. The split port 3.8's (99-04) were rated at 190-193 hp and 220-225 tq...a much better starting platform.

Re: V6 power

Sorry to post something opposed to previous info put up but the 94-98 single port V6 puts out 127HP to the flywheel. You can get the answer from any Mustang dyno shop. Just like alot of other people, I am quite positive thats the correct number. If interested, PM me and I can forward my dyno sheets to you no problem.

Re: V6 power

94/95 was 145hp in 96 they got a huge boost up to 150hp. This is the hp at the engine. The Tq is 225 at the engine.

Take 17.5% of that off for rear wheels IF manual transmission and 22% if automatic.

Automatic Transmission 3.8L 1996 Mustang
Engine: 150hp/225tq Rear Wheels: 123rwhp/185rwtq

5-speed Transmission 3.8L 1996 Mustang
Engine: 150hp/225tq Rear Wheels: 115rwhp/175rwtq
