Revs too far???

I have a 2000 v6 I usually rev my engine to see how it sounds or mess around. Well i use to rev it to 4000 rpms. Today I actually held the accelerator down and the rpms went past the redzone. It went to 6500 rpms. I recently add sct tuner for my mustang. Could this be anything to do with it? And no I didn't raise the rev limiter. And I have an automatic I need some input...

I called up American muscle. If you have an sct tuner and had it on 87 street tune, this is normal bc they raise the rev limiter.

Yeah, I was gonna say most tuners increase the limiter. Factory limiters (on an 03 at least) are 4k in neutral/park and 5,500-ish (something like that) in gear.

Re: Revs too far???

do not rev that motor past 6500rpms, heck 6400 would be my rev limiter or 6300. Also no reason to rev that high unless you like to make SURE people hear it at its worse... a nice 3k rev is where the best sound is lol.

Re: Revs too far???

I think the 3.8L starts to have potential valve float above 6500rpms
