tranny cooler

we are in the process of installing a b&m tranny cooler in my car. the screw that comes out the bottom and top of the radiator has too much blank thread and we cant get the pieces supplied to catch b/c the threads on that arent deep enough.

for those that have installed them on these cars before, what is the fix for it?

Re: tranny cooler

long zip ties will do the job if you cant bolt it up.

Re: tranny cooler

Damn...that was a quick trip.

And spector...Zip ties wouldn't cut the mustard. What we needed to connect was the transmission line to a hose adapter. Zip ties wouldn't seal the connection...as it was a compression fitting we were trying to connect.

It boils down to the fact that I don't think kyle trusted Brad and I...then again, we have been giving him a pretty hard time every chance we can. I think Kyle is going to be happy when Brad leaves town.

And rob...I wasn't even mean to him on the way back. He pulled up beside me at a redlight and I had the perfect chance to egg him on, but I didn't.

Kinda wanted to see if he'd follow our advice and not get on it tonight.

If you would have egged him on...he would have responded and we would have been discovering every possible leak there could be...as well as towing him back to the house.

Re: tranny cooler

duct tape would have held it just fine... if its good enough for a trip to the moon then its good enough to hold some line on a vehicle.

Re: tranny cooler

Just for you Kyle
Next you should see that the fitting that B&M provides for hook up to the stock cooler lines will not work.

The threads on the stock flare nut start too far up and the provided fitting is too short. You can try finding another fitting with longer threads, that would work. I could not find one, so I did it this way.

First, bend the cooler line a little towards the outside of the car, this will provided a better angle. Then, cut the tranny cooler line just after the stock flare nut. Then place the new flare nut on the tranny cooler line. Next take the flare tool (very easy to operate) and flare the new end of the cooler line. You can now wrap the new flare nut fitting with teflon tape and screw on the B&M fitting. Make sure it is nice and snug. We don't want no leaks!!! Then attach the other hose from the cooler to the fitting you just assembled. Secure with a hose clamp.
Start the car and look for leaks. Let is run for a couple minutes. If they are any, fix them!. You are done!

Well, we did hook the cooler up to his power steering at first...so he had the worlds first power steering cooler for those serious autocross days.

He face was priceless when he pulled off the ramps and had no power steering...I think he thought we destroyed his car.

Re: tranny cooler

And, in case anyone searches later...we found the proper fitting at oreily's. It is a 5/8 ths female fitting...it was located in the isles and not behind the desk. It is in the section where all their other fittings are.

Re: tranny cooler

That's half the fun of it.

BTW, did you hear that squeaking in the rear after we bottomed out going into O'Reilly's?

Re: tranny cooler

Is it the B&M with a fan attached? If so, that's the one I have and we had to do a combo of fittings to get it to work. But nothing major, just make sure all the threads were Teflon taped.
