Our cars' drivetrains have a factor known as parasitic loss.

Parasitic loss is usually around 15% for manuals and 20-25% for autos. This varies based on many variables - temperature, altitude, conditions, etc.

It is the simple loss of power due to friction and work from the engine to the wheels.

Unfortunately it is impossible to completely eliminate parasitic loss as some said. You can find ways to get the power to the ground quicker and make more power, but you can't have a 100% loss free car.

Re: How much hp?

Fords usually see 17.5% loss in drive line on a manual 15-17.5~ auto is far worse as stated
