I have two possibly three questions about my 2000 v6 Mustang.
1. The traction control button is always lit up showing that it is off even if I press it, and I was just wondering why it might do that (just for personal knowledge)?

2. Isn't there supposed to be a light under the shifter to let you see when the car is in park, drive, reverse etc.?

3. If the answer to number 2 is yes, how can I fix it/check to see what the cause is because mine doesn't light up?

Re: Couple of Questions

The traction control button lights up when you start the car and should go off after a few seconds. When the button is pressed and lights up, the "traction off" is activated. If the button is not lit, then the traction control is activated.

If your button is always on, something's not right. In that case you would'nt have any traction assistance. The best way is to try and do a slight standing burnout. If the car chokes out and stutters than the traction control is active.

The shifter has an orange reflector band that sits under whatever position you're at. I honestly can't remember if it is lit up when the lights were on...I've had a shifter boot over mine for the last 2 years, lol.

Yeah the traction control button is always on so I will have to try that.

Someone told me that the gears should light up when the lights are on. At night I have to use my phone to see what gear I am in.

Well if im not mistaking in almost all automatics can't u just press the button in start sliding it back (and release it) and it will lock when u hit drive? I havnt drove an auto mustang but all my other cars have been like that. I wouldn't worry about the light too much

Yes it is true that if u hit the button and slide it all the way back it will stop it the drive position and I am almost certain that there is supposed to be a light under the gear selector view!

Not sure about that one. I know you can slide into drive from neutral by just hitting the stick back...no need to press the button or engage the brake.
I think you can slide all the way back to 1 or 2 from park, so I'm not sure if the button method works.

I've gotten into the habit of remembering where drive is after having a shifter boot and an aftermarket shifter for a while.

Re: Couple of Questions

when the traction control is disabled it stays on (the light) so thats probably the issue, its not working currently for some reason. There should be a light for the shifter, either the light is out of the fuse to it is out, you can find the wiring diagram to see if anything else is wiring up with it, it may all be related to the same fuse.
