Gas mileage

Soo.... I took a trip to my home town which is 200 miles away from where I live. I use to run cherrybomb glasspacks and would make it home between 1/4th and half a tank. I decided to run the trip with my exhaust disconnected to see if there was a difference and there wasnt. I expected it to use more gas. Anyone do anything similar and get different results?

I usually get around 18 mpg city. Like 25+ highway around. But I have cats to straight pipes and I feel as tho it hasn't affected my gas
