Nitrous for a 2004 3.9

Hey, so I've been looking for a nice 50hp wet nitrous kit for my stang. I can't find a v6 specific kit for a mustang??? Anybody make a cheap(~$500) kit for a v6? Preferably 50-75 shot and a 10lb bottle. And one more thing, how much is a 1lb of nitrous? How fast would I go through a 10lb bottle if I only used it every once in a while?

Re: Nitrous for a 2004 3.9

well first its illegal on the street that would be enough for me to avoid it.

Different companies rate their jets different. Some are rear wheels and some are flywheel. If you gained 50rwhp thats about like half a second off your times (about what a set of gears can give you if you have 2.73 stock gears but in 99+ they are 3.27 on 3.8/3.9L)

The cost and hassle is just not worth it for only 50rwhp. I have rode in a 98 V6 with a 75 shot and was not impressed

It really all depends on what you want to do.

First question....what other mods do you have?

Technically, a wet kit from just about any nitrous company will work. Aside from maybe a mounting bracket or a fitting to tie into the fuel line, everything else is basically universal. The way that you tailor it to your specific application is by figuring out the fuel pressure and jetting it accordingly.

If you want to do it on a budget, but still do it right and as safe as possible, I'd advise you to run 1-step colder copper plugs gapped down to probably .038, make sure you're running premium fuel when you spray, and keep the shot size reasonable. If you go over a 75 shot I'd advise a tune for it. Realistically, 75 divided by 6 is 12.5. That is only an additional 12.5 HP per cylinder, that's really not as much stress on each rod/piston as you may think when you think "75 additional HP".

Another few maintenance things are to replace your fuel filter when you install it (you want to MAKE SURE you don't run lean), and I'd probably make sure the oxygen sensors are fresh and functioning well. May want to clean your K&N if you have one or replace the air filter.

A window switch is definitely a nice safety mechanism. If it's in the budget, I say get one. The N2MB WOT box is one of the best tools out there for the $$$, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with V6 mustangs. I'd shoot them an e-mail and ask.

Sorry.....didn't answer some of your questions

Nitrous prices vary. I've seen between $3-$4.50 depending on the area. Roughly $3 is what I'm used to.

On a 50-75 shot, you should be able to get quite a few 1/4 mile passes out of it as long as you can keep the bottle warm (I.E., keep the pressure up). My guess would be 8-13 1/4 mile passes.

Re: Nitrous for a 2004 3.9

I ran a NOS (holley brand) Powershot kit. it was a universal 4/6 cylinder wet kit. with that kit i used a ZEX TPS controll unit. I had used the NOS WOT switch but i had issues moujting the switch on my TB. the TPS Control unit was spliced into my Throttle sensor. it pretty good.

Re: Nitrous for a 2004 3.9

My kit was an Edelbrock 75 shot kit I picked up on a local forum. Worked well but I removed it before selling the car. I pad $250 for the kit on a forum. Always helps to shop around

Plus how are they going to know you were spraying? Maybe if they saw you purge first they may have an idea but you'd probably see the cop.

Don't need to be spraying. In most states, if not all, having the bottle in the car and hooked up is against the law whether you spray or not. The reason is it's a safety hazard for first responders. If you roll your car and it's on fire, they don't know they are approaching a time bomb.

Makes sense to me. But like I said earlier, as far as I know it's NOT illegal in Texas which doesn't doesn't help the OP but good information none the less. I don't personally have nitrous in my car but I have several friends with street/strip cars that have the bottle hooked up all the time. I've never heard them mention anything like it being against the law, in Texas at least.

most upgrades are illegal on the street. Like aftermarket headlights, tail light and headlight covers, fog lights and even some cold air intakes. but ive never heard one person read that warning and go oh darn cant get it now.. lol ive been pulled over a number of times and few of the cars had a bottle in plain site and no cop has ever said anything.
