429 swap

I'm about to swap a 429 into my 04 mustang . Does anyone know what it's going to take to get it sitting in and not necessarily legal but able to be driven.

Will a 429 even fit between the fenders?

Carbed or fuel-injected? And your probably going to need a cowl hood, different k-member, special headers and a c6 to be safe. 429=tree moving torque so a beefier rear-end. Find a 99-04 stock rear-end and you'll be fine.

Re: 429 swap

Helped a friend of mine put a 460 in older Fox (Capri ) years ago , was pretty easy , just get the correct mounts and headers ,it fits pretty good , and the engine bay and cradle on your car are pretty much the same as the older fox's so shouldn't be a problem .....

No offense bro, but when u have a new idea every day, its kinda hard to take you seriously. Ive had several ideas over the years. But dropping in an 8k motor is just ridiculous. Itll take you a long time to do the swap and youre car will be laid up the entire time. Youll need another car just to do the swap. I really think you should just hold out and get a gt.

Ya your right. I wanna gt. But it's hard to find one with good price, decent mileage, and that's been taken care of. I agree with you tho...

You just need to keep your eyes open. You may have to travel an hour or so but itll show up. How much are you looking to spend? Be realistic about it. Theres a place in slidell that gets new mustangs all the time. Cobras, mach 1s, etc.

At least for now take a step back and wait it out. You have too many ideas and i have a feeling youre gonna buy something youll regret.

Re: 429 swap

It actually looks pretty clean. I just wonder how the motor is with all the exterior work done. It might be ragged out. Also note that without a pi head swap, it isn't much faster than your current car. Not something I'd go in debt over. You may wanna start a new thread with a poll of what you should do. I don't wanna hijack someone elses

Congrats you must know your ****. However swapping wiring, tranny, and rear end will take much longer. He doesn't seem like he has the mechanical experience that you have.

Yeah I didn't swap the wiring... Just had to custom fab a water outlet bracket and the fuel rails. If I had to do all that I would take two days.

studying the service manuals will only get you so far, its experience, confidence in what your doing, AND the service manual that take you places with a car. No need to be butt-hurt and taking it out on the site, that just shows immaturity man.
