4.2L engine from a 98 3.8L

Ok, I know there is another discussion like this one, but it started getting off track, so I want to begin another one.

Can a professional help me out?

I have a 1998 3.8L... completely stock engine... I only have bolt-ons...

I would like to know how to get to a 4.2L from my 3.8L, without engine swapping. I have read that my 3.8 has the same block as the 97-98 4.2L engines, and that all I need to do is swap the 4.2's crank, pistons, and rods over to my engine... and I have a 4.2....?

This sounds too easy to be true to me, but I am nowhere near being a professional mechanic...

what else needs to be done with my 98? Please, be as detailed as possible...

that doesnt sound easy at all. you will have to completely rebuild the lower end of your motor. witch requires you pull the motor out of the car.

I have access to all of the tools and time required for removing the engine... I also did consider getting a 99-04 engine from a pull-a-part and working on the new engine separate from the original.... Will the 99-04 v6 engine drop right into my car with no additional modifications required?

Yes. Might have to change up the wiring harness a little and will need a custom tune. Should work though

Thanks for all the help man... I can get a 99-04 v6 at a pull-a-part for $100... Then work on the new engine as a separate project while still driving with my old engine in it... Will my transmission support the swap?

Re: 4.2L engine from a 98 3.8L

I know some people who will be helping me out... My father and future father-in-law... but my father is a Chevy guy... I just thought I would get as much info for myself before beginning the project. I have a friend that is doing a Coyote engine swap into his 94 Cobra... So we both may be needing some expert help... I just really want to keep a V6 and not take the easy way out by swapping a V8 for the HP gains...
