A\C working then not working

I have a 99' Mustang with a 3.8L v-6. When the a\c works it works fine (blows cold) but sometimes it will not work at all. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Find a good mechanic to take a look at it. If you want to avoid being "sold" just tell them you are test driving the car and thinking about buying it. Lol.

Also, pop the hood and look at the compressor. Does it look rusty? Is it making any noise?

How many miles are on the car and has the compressor ever been changed?

Check if ther's air in the freon lines, sometimes that might be a problem, does the engine starts to overheat or goes hotter than normal when the A/C is on but isn't cooling? if so it might be a cooling problem maybe a dirty radiator (that happened to me on my 2001)
