Re: Pype, Magnaflow or MAC Dual Exhaust

I've heard tons of videos online and a few v6's (94-08's) in person with magnaflows, and I didn't care for them. On v8's they sound wicked, the magnapacks are *****in...but I'd stay away from them on the v6.

The main reason is because they are straight thru...vs chambered mufflers. Chambered mufflers (2 or 3) will give you more tone and a crisper sound at idle and when accelerating.

Flowmaster, Pypes, some Cherry Bomb mufflers, and I believe Mac are chambered.

I have the Pypes street pros on my v6...the sound is decent, not extremely deep though...more of a race tone similar to a 350Z, which for a v6 sounds pretty good.

It's up to you, but I would stick with a chambered setup...straight pipes will probably be the loudest, but there will be no sound quality and it will sound annoying and buzzy in the higher rpms.

Imo a quieter v6 sounds better...aim for sound quality over loudness.

I've heard good things about MAC, and they offer a ton of exhaust options for the v6's. Headers (long and short), midpipes, catbacks all which work with one another so fitment isn't an issue.

Re: Pype, Magnaflow or MAC Dual Exhaust

I love the sound of the magnaflows on the six with no cats and h or x pipe. I went with the flowmasters and regret it everytime I start my car

Re: Pype, Magnaflow or MAC Dual Exhaust

I have been doing the Youtube watch/listen thing for a while trying to find the "right" sound for my car and it seems that the 05-09 exhaust sounds quite a bit different than the 99-04 exhaust with the same brand of pipes... How much of a difference is there between the 2 generations as far as pipe bends, cats, etc?

I really love this sound of the magnaflows on this car , but mine is an 01 not an 05 and would hate to waste $$$ on the wrong parts.........

Any suggestions?

Well Magnaflow makes a specific catback for the 99-04 v6's...I believe it's a converter back system (y-pipe to tips). I have heard quite a few 99-04's online and a couple in person and I didn't care for Magnaflows on the v6's...too buzzy and high pitched. But it's all personal preference...some people like that sound where others don't.

Either way you'll want to stick with exhaust systems that fit 99-04's..+05 exhaust is completely different as the piping is ran differently and they have axlebacks.

I agree with Jamesgt08 with the MagnaFlow, Listen I have on my cars, I have the MagnaFlow HP pipes and X pipe on both cars, my Mustang GT and my 2010 Camaro LT V6. Both sound excellant, the Mustang is a little more aggressive sounding than the Camaro, I got it that way, because wife does not need the aggressive sound, I got the Low, Deep Sound for the Camaro, For the Mustang I got "BALLS to the WALL" SOUND. I believe you will be happy with "MagnaFlow" system. Because of the Exhaust, CAI Intake and Tuner Chip, My LT Camaro is far more than the RS Camaro, many passerbys including SS Camaro owners think that it's a SS also, they get real confused cause it sounds like a SS, sort of resembles the SS because of Exhaust, Tune and 22" tires, but does not have SS letters or Hood scope breather.

Re: Pype, Magnaflow or MAC Dual Exhaust

We all like different sounds, if you like the way the macs sound get those. I got the flowmasters and reget it. I personally like the magnaflows. Some people don't. If joshy is still on here he would swear by borlas. To each his own. Listen to em all and go with what YOU like the best, after all you have to drive it.

Flowmasters!

Go with an O/R H-pipe, and Flowmaster 44 series... trust me, send me a private message and I'll get you a video clip of what mine sounds like... closer to that GT sound you are looking for than anything else out there... plus, you can get them both for cheap!

Re: Pype, Magnaflow or MAC Dual Exhaust

Also, my future brother-in-law has a 2001 v6 with a "Pypes" true duel exhaust system on his with a high-flow catted x-pipe... it sounds pretty good too... my 98 with flowmasters and an uncatted h-pipe has a little deeper sound, but the pypes are pretty loud... just another option for you...

That's what is so great about these cars... so many options! No 2 mustangs are the same...

bmabbott- Did you give a listen to my Flowmasters posted above?? Let me know where I can check out your FM 44's.
I have long tubes, cats, and a ProChamber in the works. I'm waiting on mustangsunlimited.com for the rest of the specs I need.

Sounds pretty good Robb. Very similar to mine. May have a little deeper tone than mine, but cracks a lot more during your rev. I'll try to get a video of mine posted. (I can't find the battery charger for my camcorder...) Sounds great though man, good job and keep up the good work!

For you guys that are just looking for LOUD sound, then just get Glasspack mufflers, like Cherry Bomb. That'll be all the noise you can handle, while your still able to Hear.

Maybe Cherry Bomb "Pro" or the "Extreme"~ Just as loud, better tone. Glasspacks are from the Cherry Bomb company of many years ago!

I'm just gonna go with MAC because it's the cheapest and I can always swap out mufflers
