Well...you just need 99+ heads and lower intake if you are going to use the Windstar upper intake...

Re: New mods

Yah upgrading and becoming split port rather than single port is probably the biggest horsepower gain other than FI...there are a few guys who have stayed single port (94-98) and threw on an M90 from a Supercoupe and made decent numbers, but I don't think you want to go that extreme.

A split port swap will bring you up to 99-04 3.8/3.9 v6 specs, possibly a bit more if you do some other mods such as the windstar intake.

What's the windstar upper intake? Is it just a brand for the intake?

Re: New mods

It's the upper intake from a Windstar mini van...the intake bolts right on to the 99-04 3.8's lower and does look pretty good under the hood.

Here's the site that offers the full kit and accessories..I'm sure you can find one off a windstar van at a junkyard as well.

VAP Auto - Windstar Kit

I do believe the intake only works on split ports, so you'd have to convert your single port to a split first (minus the upper), then install the windstar.

It does only work with a split port...the VAP Auto kit is easy to install. I have it on my 04 and it is awesome!

In 96 the Windstar got the split port that the 99 mustang got but had the composite upper intake and therefore had more hp and torque than both mustangs. Hence it is a popular upgrade for split port v6's.

Yah it does sound odd but back in 96 on paper the Windstar was making more power than the v6 mustang

I would hope the mustang was quicker being lighter and geared better, but you never know.

A lot of split port guys do it as it's one more engine "bolt on" after intake, pullies and exhaust to gain a few more ponies.

If your car is a 94 thru 98 it's a single port. 99 thru 04 are split port.

Well...all you need are the heads and lower intake and then purchase the Windstar upper intake kit from VAP Auto.

Re: New mods

Your going to have to spend a chunk of change to get any noticable upgrade out of the single ports. I said screw it and just bought an 03, better starting point. You could go m90 on the single, but from those I know that have done it, said it wasn't much fun. It did bring them just above the splitports though.

That being said if you go split port Tom Morana sells an intake which will allow you to run the 03/04 Cobra supercharger

Re: New mods

Well blackheart your my new best friend. I didn't know anyone made a kit to use the later cobra blowers, I am very, very interested. Sounds like a better route for me than the twin turbo I was looking at.

It's $900 for the adapter plate...you will probably get the damn M112 cheaper lol. You'd need all the necessary pieces with the blower, plus upgrades to fuel, drivetrain, suspension and a new or modified hood for the blower to fit.

It is possible to do and a few guys have, but I'd look into a single turbo unit or a centri styled charger over it...imo the heaton is inefficient on the v6's compared to other options and you're not cooled in any way since the intercooler can't fit.

The instant power of a positive displacement blower is nice but newer turbo technology has made lag much less significant compared to the older styles.

Don't be one of those people. Some people actually want to just liven up their drive to work, you can do that with some boltons on a v6...
