Hi

New here and just have a question I have a mustang 3.9l 5 speed it's an 04 and I am hoping to soup it up pretty good. She's sharp. Given I don't know the first thing about cars I need some help. I need to know what would be best to do as far as exhaust and horsepower. Please any feedback would be great

Re: Hi

one major thing to learn and learn quick as no cheap simple modifications are going to do much of anything to add horse power. I am talking about an intake or exhaust might add 5-7rwhp~ so you see it wont get you much of anywhere.

When all the easy/bolt on mods are done they together make a decent difference, but just dont expect the claims you hear. An exhaust system wont add 25hp, nor will an intake or a tune etc.

Rear end gears (upgrade from 3.27 to 4.10s) would be a good jump in performance (add in a traction lok unit (so both tires spin as its the same effort for this and gears). Cost can be a bit high but you get a great performance gain... but gas mileage is hurt.

The motor itself without building it is good for 300-350hp depending on what you do (Nitrous, supercharger, turbocharger) so thats about the limit.

the more mods you do the more trouble you end up having so its a risk/reward type thing fyi

Re: Hi

Yah flow 40's with longtubes and an h-pipe seems to be the best setup on the 99-04's. There are some other options ~ Pypes, Borla, Cherry Bomb (chambered ones) etc.

Chips are a thing of the past...handheld tuners are the way to go.

You can get an SCT tuner with custom tunes at American Muscle thru Bama Tunes and gain some power as well as be able to adjust parameters for gear/tire changes, rev limiters, etc.

You might pay more, $379, but you get free tunes for life, so it's a good deal.
