Need to change outside door handles

Hi folks. I'm new here and this may be in the wrong spot but here goes:

I have an '02 3.8 Mustang in showroom shape except for the outside door handles which have been ruined by me doing something stupid. I just received replacements and painted them. I have seen the instruction on this forum about how to take off the panels to get at the speaker. But the instructions stop with the white plastic still remaining. I'm concerned about what I'm, likely to find behind that white plastic and would benefit from any knowledge you might have. I have power windows.

Do I have to take all of that white plastic off or can I get at the door handle mechanism just peeling off that corner?

How difficult a job is changing the door handles? Does the white plastic go back on or does it have to be replaced?

I bought new Polk speakers and will be going in there to replace them and would like to kill two birds with one stone.

Thanks.

Re: Need to change outside door handles

Sorry nobody has got to you yet. I just put new speakers in mine not too long ago. From what I remember that plastic is just stuck on there and you should be able to pull it back and restick it when your done, if not a little silicone could work. I'll try to dig up my haynes manuel today and look for the correct procedure.

Re: Need to change outside door handles

Thanks. Still hoping for some insight on getting at those outside doorhandles. I'm wondering if there will be window assembly in the way or if I have the window up all the way, it's smooth sailing without taking off another layer that may have a zillion screws or w/e. Thanks again.

once you get behind that white plastic, with window rolled up, you will be staring at the hardware of the handle itself.

Woot.

I'm thinking of having my speakers installed professionally and was wondering how much more of a big deal it might be to do this at this same time--assuming they would (for the added labor). It just seems crazy to take the door apart twice but I'm kinda stuck needing both a collision shop and a speaker installer. My new Polk speakers come with crossover gizmos I'm not familiar with and I haven't done car speakers myself since my first car (1970 Plymouth Road Runner bought in '77). Any thoughts?

Thanks.
