fuel problem

Ok.. let's start here driving down the road slowed down went to take off and the car was dead.. just shut off and didn't even know til I tried to take off.. tried to start it and it just cranked for a few then turned over. Then I was on my way to dinner and it dies again tried to start it and wouldn't start just cranked and like 3 mins later finally turns over.. ok now that being said. Went to auto zone last night and check engine like was on got it scanned and codes came up for gas cap. Changed it. And bad fuel. So I go to oriellys after work and got fuel injector cleaner. Was fine for a while then died on the way to dinner... Help???

Change your fuel filter lately?
Can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn on the key?

Good and since you can hear it run the fuel pump may be working ok.
If it dies on you again, turn the key to on immediately after and see if you can hear it then.

Yeah maybe, I'm wondering if it doesn't have some water in it.

Well I just drove it to work and it was fine but I'm tryin to take it easy. I'm gonna change the fuel filter first and see what happens. What do I do if there is water in it? Drop the tank?

You may have to, but what I was thinking is that the water (being heavier than fuel) has mostly settled into the fuel filter.
Hopefully changing out the fuel filter and maybe adding some fuel treatment will solve the problem.
