Extending Shift Handle

I'm trying to make my shift knob a little higher, and i was wondering what parts i need for the job. Just think opposite of a short shifter. I have an 04 Mustang. Thanks!

Do what?? That thing already sticks out in no man's land...

Uhm...the only thing I can think of is find a shifter for a ranger running a t-5. I know the handle out of my ranger would put the knob up around your head range.

Re: Extending Shift Handle

you have to realize that by raising the handle you are really adding travel to your shift~ if you want a taller shifter i would get the roush handle with shifter~ as the shifter shortens the throw to offset the taller handle.

Re: Extending Shift Handle

I really hope it's not already a stock shift handle... They were the world's tallest man-made structure until 2003.

Re: Extending Shift Handle

I realize i have a six shooter and it isnt really that fast anyways. I honestly just like the look of a taller handle. I'm a short guy, so it would be cool if i could shift into third without leaning forward thanks for the help!

So...what's so retarded about it? The guy has to lean up to shift into 3rd. It aint like he wants to go fast. If anything, I feel for the guy. Goodluck with your project. Have fun...AND GROW SOME LEGS

Well...for one thing....why not just scoot the seat forward.

Secondly, by adding more travel to the handle, 3rd would actually be harder to get into and might possibly interfere with the radio and other controls.

Re: Extending Shift Handle

I see where he is coming from the placement of the shifter in the 94-04 mustangs it not great. It is way to far forward... so if you are comfortable in your position minus the shifter you have to scoot forward and cramp up just to get to the damn thing.

An mgw short throw shifter is a GREAT investment and it helps the position and reach~ I would look into it. Nothing will be 100% but it helps.
