whining noises?

Im hearing whining noises from under the hood. Im thinking maybe its tge power steering pump not sure. It does it when im at idle not moving but gets louder at acceleration and turning. I no my belt needs to be change but that would make it sound like tht idk. Maybe the bearings on a pulley? My power steering reservior is full so im think the pumps bad. Sry for the long read any help is greatly appreciated thanks in advance!

Re: whining noises?

Man I've been having the same problem for weeks. I changed the pump twice and nothing. I am frustrated man, ford sucks when it comes to power steering. I read someone put lukas powersteering leak protector in their fluid and it helped. (they did not have a leak) I will try this out and see wat happens. good luck

Make sure the P/S fluid is clean and full. If the problem persists change your belt. Belts cause all kinds of noises and can be bad even if it looks fine.

Re: whining noises?

There is a screen on the return line at the bottom of the pump that probably needs to be cleaned. Do a complete flush and while you do that clean that screen. That should help.

My 98 had the same problem. I replaced the power steering twice, and it wound up just bring one of the pulley's. You checked those?

Re: whining noises?

Idler pulley can be culprit.
A BG flush would be great.
I mentioned before that I changed my fluid till clean. Mobil1 auto trans fluid has worked great for years, quiet operation for a Ford.

Re: whining noises?

have not checked the pulleys yet. I am getting a factory ps pump installed tomorrow, depending on how that goes, i will give the atf fluid a try and will also check the pulleys
